Chef – North Warning System

Location : Various Northern Sites across the Arctic

Type : Unionized, Rotational Position (6 weeks on, 6 weeks off)

Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS), a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada.

What You’ll Do :

  • Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with an approved cycle menu, catering to dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Ensure a safe and sanitary work environment, including kitchen and dining area cleaning.
  • Manage food costs, inventory, and documentation, including receipt, storage, and control of supplies.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain kitchen equipment and food storage areas.
  • Implement food service in compliance with the Food Safety Code of Practice.
  • Contribute to site safety and emergency response as required.
  • Provide first aid support if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including travel to other sites for chef functions.

Who You Are : Credentials :

  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Interprovincial Journeyman status or equivalent culinary qualifications.
  • Valid safety food handling certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience :

  • Journeyman-level experience in restaurants, hotels, or cafeterias.
  • Proven ability to manage inventory and ordering processes.
  • Camp experience is an asset.
  • Skills :

  • Proficient in safe food handling and quality operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective planning, organization, and time management.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Comfortable with MS Word and Excel (an asset).
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, often in adverse weather, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

    Rotation & Overtime : 6 weeks in / 6 weeks out rotation, 48 hours per week, with overtime paid at 1.5x your base rate for extra hours worked. Paid travel days (up to 2 days) and all travel costs covered.
