SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Report to the Electrical Supervisor. Perform all duties required by the trade of an Industrial Electrician including, but not limited to : troubleshooting, repair, and operational and basic predictive and preventative electrical maintenance duties on associated installations for the Hamilton Water & Wastewater Treatment Facilities and Outstations. This will involve exposure to varying climatic conditions, potential exposure to trace amounts of treatment chemicals, sludge, water and wastewater, working at computer terminals, and working at heights and in confined spaces.
Must be self-motivated with a strong team-working skillset, able to work both independently and as part of a team. Must excel at planning, organizing, and implementing work pertaining to breakdown and preventive maintenance on electrical equipment.
GENERAL DUTIES
Maintains, adjusts, repairs, and replaces electrical equipment and electrical components related to Water and Wastewater Treatment Processes, Plant Facilities and Outstations.
Performs all operational and basic predictive and preventative electrical maintenance duties.
Adjusts, inspects and evaluates process performance and the equipment to optimize efficiency and effectiveness in accordance with established procedures.
Conduct planned and unplanned work and record findings into the Work Order system.
Communicate Work Order part and supply requirements to CMMS Planners for ordering when required.
Carry out various testing procedures required to monitor equipment conditions.
Maintain a clean and safe work area environment.
Suggest improvements to existing equipment, maintenance practices and procedures.
Oversee Contractors on site.
Works closely with plant personal and promote team work.
Undertakes all assigned duties in a safe and professional manner, complying with City Of Hamilton Safety Corporate and Departmental Policies, and in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, HIMS, Confined Space and all other applicable Regulations.
Assists facility personnel in a variety of duties as required.
Performs other duties as may be assigned, which are related to the normal job function.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must hold a valid 309A or 442A Certificate of Qualification with a proven apprenticeship, with extensive experience in the Water / Wastewater or manufacturing industry.
2. Extensive experience working with large industrial process equipment, performing the duties of a licensed Electrician, in the Water / Wastewater or Manufacturing Industry.
3. Proven knowledge, experience, and proficiency in the operation and maintenance of medium voltage and high voltage (4.16 kV, 13.8 kV) electrical equipment including but not limited to : MCCs, VFDs, breakers, switchgear and transformers and generators.
4. Strong analytical and problem solving skills required. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
5. Must have strong trouble shooting skills where schematics may not be readily available.
6. Good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills required
7. Must be able to obtain by examination within probation period or already possess :
a. Operator-in-training Wastewater Treatment Certificate of Competency
b. Operator-in-training Wastewater Collection Certificate of Competency
c. Operator-in-training Water Treatment Certificate of Competency
d. Operator-in-training Water Distribution Certificate of Competency
In addition, must be able to obtain Level 1 certification in all classifications listed above within six (6) years to continue employment.
8. Must possess a driver’s license, Class ‘G’ or better, valid in the Province of Ontario and able to maintain same.
9. Must be self-motivated with a strong teamwork skillset, able to work both independently and as part of a team. Must excel at planning, organizing, and implementing work.
10. Must be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act Regulations that apply to this work.
11. Must be able to pass a respiratory fit test and maintain self-contained breathing apparatus and other safety equipment. Must be able to work at heights and confined spaces.
12. Must be able to report on-call outside normal work hours and to report to various work sites.
13. Have a “do it right the first time approach.”
14. Be able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
15. Self-sufficient and proficient in trade.
NOTE : Must possess and maintain a Class "G" (or better) Driver's License valid in the Province of Ontario and a point-free driving record and or record found to be satisfactory to the City of Hamilton.
