The Organization

Our client, Foundations for Social Change, is a mission-driven organization focused on testing innovative approaches to social issues through research-based initiatives. By piloting new programs and gathering data-driven insights, the organization advocates for systemic policy changes that drive meaningful impact.

Currently undergoing significant growth and transformation, Foundations for Social Change is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director, Development to lead and execute fundraising strategies that will drive sustainable revenue growth and position the organization for national expansion.

The Position

The Director of Development will own and lead the organization’s fundraising strategy, overseeing a growing portfolio of major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, individual giving, and board-driven fundraising efforts. This individual will be responsible for building and managing donor relationships, securing critical funding, and developing scalable fundraising initiatives.

This role will be instrumental in transitioning the organization away from reliance on grants and toward a more diversified and sustainable funding model. The Director will oversee two fundraising managers and work closely with the leadership team to execute high-impact campaigns and fundraising programs.

PLEASE NOTE - This hybrid position is based on a four-day, 30-hour workweek model.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies across major gifts, corporate partnerships, individual giving, grants and board engagement.
  • Drive donor stewardship, ensuring strong relationships and long-term commitment.
  • Build a sustainable funding pipeline, reducing reliance on grants (currently 75% of revenue).
  • Lead grant writing initiatives and oversee the grant development process to secure critical funding.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to align messaging and storytelling with fundraising initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities, including non-traditional funding models such as social enterprise and impact investments.

Portfolio & Team Leadership

  • Own the organization’s full fundraising portfolio while overseeing a grant writer and two fundraising managers.
  • Lead and mentor the fundraising team, ensuring high performance and accountability.
  • Support the development of new fundraising programs in alignment with the organization’s long-term growth strategy.
  • Work closely with the board and leadership team to maximize fundraising potential and donor engagement.
  • Campaign Development & Execution

  • Design and execute major fundraising campaigns targeting individual donors, corporate sponsors, and institutional funders.
  • Develop an individual giving program, including peer-to-peer campaigns and major donor cultivation.
  • Oversee corporate sponsorship initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational values and long-term funding needs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Serve as a key external representative of the organization, building relationships with donors, sponsors, and funding partners.
  • Work alongside the board to increase philanthropic contributions and strengthen major donor engagement.
  • Act as a trusted leader within the organization, ensuring alignment between fundraising efforts and overall mission.

  • Proven fundraising leadership experience, with expertise in securing major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants and donor relations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and execution skills, with the ability to develop and implement sustainable funding models.
  • Excellent relationship-building abilities, with confidence in high-stakes donor meetings and corporate partnerships.
  • Data-driven approach to fundraising, with a keen understanding of metrics, pipeline development, and donor retention strategies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the team.
  • Experience managing fundraising teams, with a collaborative and supportive leadership style.

    Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range : $80,000 - $90,000 for a four-day, hybrid workweek (based on the equivalent of $105,000 for a five-day role).
  • Compensation may be adjusted based on experience and market benchmarks.
