Here’s the Scoop - Summary

The primary objective for the 3rd or 4th Year Millwright Apprentice is to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and ensure they are fixed and returned to service as quickly as possible while, still maintaining high-quality work. The 3rd or 4th Year Millwright Apprentice is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing production-related equipment in the Company’s pet food production facility in Acheson, AB. This position is also required to interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics and drawings to determine work procedures, and must be able to perform basic level welding, brazing, flame cutting and electric arc welding. This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.

What a typical day looks like :

  • Ensure compliance to Company’s policies, practices and procedures related to Health and Safety, Food Safety, and the Environment
  • Repair and maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications using diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and other technical resources. Will be required to maintain mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production equipment. Must be competent using hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring
  • Perform department PMs, including but not limited to, cleaning, lubricating, adjusting and completing other routine maintenance work.
  • Provide emergency repairs for production equipment during unscheduled shutdowns
  • Perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment as directed including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and troubleshooting and repair of production machines
  • Troubleshoot equipment and related production problems by diagnosing defects in equipment. Using a combination of experience and observation, ensure mechanical equipment’s are operating as intended. Develop solutions to ongoing or reoccurring problems
  • Efficiently set up, inspect, shut down, dismantle, and reassemble production-related equipment when required to do so
  • Competently operate and monitor any mechanical controls on equipment
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
  • Participate in departmental housekeeping practices such as keeping the maintenance shop and surrounding area clean, as well as the metal rack, outside scrap bins and welding stations
  • Perform other tasks as required or assigned

What are we looking for?

  • 3rd or 4th Year Millwright
  • Ability to diagnose high sequenced machinery and determine the root causes of problems in an efficient and timely manor
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol and Fit-to-Work test up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to clear a Criminal Record Check and provide references
  • Working Conditions

  • Work environment is in a pet food distribution centre, with exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures
  • Overtime and Saturdays as required
  • Must be able to physically inspect company equipment, property, and assets
  • Regularly required to work at heights; fall arrest training to be provided by the Company
