Valve Service Technician

Responsibilities
- Installation and Commissioning
- Travel to client sites to install new mechanical valves, including safety valves, ensuring proper installation according to engineering blueprints and manufacturer guidelines.
- Cooperate with client engineers and technicians to integrate valves into larger piping and fluid systems, ensuring seamless operation with pumps, compressors, and other mechanical components.
- Conduct hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure tests post‑installation to confirm secure, leak‑free connections and proper valve operation under operational pressures.
- Inspection and Maintenance
- Perform scheduled inspections of mechanical valves in operation to identify wear, corrosion, or malfunction risks.
- Execute preventive maintenance programs—lubrication, cleaning, and replacement of worn parts such as diaphragms, springs, or seals—in compliance with manufacturer and industry standards.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs
- Use diagnostic tools (ultrasonic testers, pressure gauges, infrared thermometers) to troubleshoot valve issues such as stem leaks, seating problems, or actuator failures.
- Respond to emergency repair requests, applying effective repair methods like seal replacements, valve seat grinding or lapping, or replacing worn components.
- Fabricate custom parts on‑site when necessary (machining, welding, or adjusting components).
- Support customer needs in both field and shop environments and suggest ways to increase efficiency.
- Testing and Calibration
- Perform functional tests on repaired or installed valves, including pressure relief valve checks and control valve simulations.
- Adjust valve settings and instrumentation to optimize system performance using specialized calibration equipment.
- Ensure all testing meets local, national, and international standards and document results for regulatory inspections.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed logs of all work performed, including parts replaced, test results, and recommendations.
- Generate technical reports summarizing client valve system conditions, analysis of failures, and suggested preventive measures with photos and data.
- Client Interaction
- Serve as technical advisor, explaining complex mechanical issues and offering tailored solutions.
- Provide on‑site training for client personnel on valve operation and basic maintenance.
- Follow up with customers to ensure ongoing satisfaction and future needs.
- Required to perform calibration, testing, and diagnostics of Emerson and other pneumatic and electric actuators and use tools like LAD, Valvelink, and Flowscanner.
- Support field service across Eastern Canada (Kingston, Ontario to New Brunswick).
- In‑House Workshop
- Inspect, repair, maintain, and test valves and associated equipment in the shop.
- Diagnose issues, troubleshoot, and prepare accurate service reports within required timelines.
- Adhere to safety protocols, company procedures, and customer site requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and clean work areas.
- Support shutdowns, emergency repairs, and planned maintenance activities.
- Safety Compliance
- Identify potential hazards and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
- Use appropriate PPE (hard hats, gloves, goggles, face masks, flame‑retardant clothing).
- Handle hazardous materials safely and dispose of contaminated materials properly.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Collaboration
- Work with client teams (engineers, plant operators) to integrate valve systems into plant operations.
- Provide guidance to junior technicians and help during shutdowns or outages.
- Collaborate with electricians, plumbers, and control system engineers to resolve multidisciplinary mechanical issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience with mechanical valves in field service or maintenance roles.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in mechanical systems or plumbing preferred.
- Knowledge of valve types (gate, globe, ball, butterfly, safety), mechanical and hydraulic systems, and ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Strong communication skills in French; English communication skills are an asset.
- ASP Construction Certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office; introductory ERP experience.
- Ability to work under extreme temperatures and in demanding physical positions (lifting, bending, climbing).
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel, including to the United States for training.
Working Conditions
- Physical demands: lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, crouching, long periods of standing or sitting.
- Extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and challenging environments.
- Required to work outside normal hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Frequent travel across Eastern Canada (specifically across U.S. for training).
