The Energy & Environment Department is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the City of Penticton's distribution electrical systems, as well as climate action work. This department manages all electric services from infrastructure and electrical distribution to metering, traffic signals and street lighting.Reporting to the Electric Utility Foreman, the Powerline Technician (PLT) will work alongside other PLT's to maintain the City's electrical infrastructure in a safe and productive manner. The City of Penticton takes pride in the workmanship and operational stability of its system supporting 21,000 customers all within the city limits.Key Responsibilities : Install steel and wood poles live linePull underground cable and install terminationsInstall and repair street lighting and traffic signalsRoutine maintenance of electrical equipmentObtain and issue Permits and Protection GuaranteesPerform low voltage service workOperate aerial devices, radial boom derricks and other utility equipmentFill out timesheets and material recordsLocate City owned underground infrastructure for BC One callInstall civil ducting and equipmentClimb wood poles at various heights as neededRequired Qualifications : Preference will be given to those having an Interprovincial Red Seal endorsement; however, 3rd Year PowerLine Apprentices willing and able to complete their certifications may be considered and are welcome to apply.Five or more recent years of experience in the construction and maintenance of energized urban and rural electrical distribution systems, both overhead and underground (12,470V phase to phase), including Class 2 (or higher) Rubber Glove live line work, civil underground construction, vegetation management, substation maintenance and on-call rotation.Valid BC Driver's Licence (Class 1) with Air endorsement.On-call rotation of approximately every 9 weeks with the ability to respond in person within 30 minutes.At the City of Penticton, we recognize that great talent and great ideas come from a variety of backgrounds.
