Job description

The Assistant Project Manager - Supply Chain is an integral part of supporting the successful execution of supply chain projects, with a focus on managing vendor scope and relationships for major outsourced fabrications. This role will work in close collaboration with the supply chain specialists as well as Engineering, Planning & Production teams to ensure project success. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, an understanding of supply chain management, excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, with technical knowledge considered an asset.

Note : This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you’ll do

Project Management :

  • Support the coordination and execution of supply chain projects, ensuring alignment with overall program goals.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, tracking milestones, and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Monitor project costs, prepare budgets, and track expenses to ensure adherence to financial objectives.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with the project, implementing contingency plans as necessary.
  • Generate and present detailed project reports, highlighting progress, variances, and corrective actions to stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular site visits to vendor locations to validate progress, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with project standards.
  • Work closely with vendors to address quality concerns, implement improvements, and ensure consistency in deliverables.

Supply Chain Management :

  • Manage subcontractor relationships, including performance monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Review milestone payments, ensuring that contract deliverables and conditions are met before authorizing payments.
  • Develop, review, and implement contractual documents, change orders, and related materials in a timely manner.
  • Expedite critical deliverables, including data, equipment, and materials, to maintain project timelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure all deliverables meet project-specific requirements and standards.
  • Conduct vendor assessments and explore potential new sourcing options to support future project needs.
  • Collaboration and Communication :

  • Serve as a liaison between internal teams (engineering, planning, estimating, quality, and operations) and external vendors to facilitate project success.
  • Organize regular project review meetings and present updates on cost, schedule, quality, and risk management.
  • Document and track commitments and action items identified during meetings, ensuring timely resolution.
  • What you’ll bring

  • Post-secondary education in relevant discipline (bachelor’s degree in engineering or business preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Assistant Project Management certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction industry, in progressively senior positions.
  • Experience working with engineering, planning or production in the shipbuilding industry or in a complex manufacturing industry.
  • Program management and project management skills.
  • Communication skills; verbal, written and presentational.
  • Ability to work with various team members in support of meeting program or project objectives.
  • Technical skills with knowledge of modern shipbuilding design, procurement and production techniques are desirable.
  • Knowledge of program performance metrics with the ability to identify key metrics and assist in the development of comprehensive performance reports.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), scheduling systems and resource planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of Government contract administration procedures.
  • Problem solving skills, data analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and SharePoint).
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing objectives.

  • The estimated salary for this position is $94,000-$112,800. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
