Opportunity
Managerof Clinical Services – Acute Care is responsible for the management of theacute clinical units and services. The position facilitates and supportsimplementation of evidence‑based practices to achieve excellence in highquality delivery of patient care, and leads the multi-disciplinary team toprovide person-centered care.
The Manager ofClinical Services– Acute Care reports to the Vice President Clinical Services& Chief Nursing Executive, and is a key member of the leadership team ofthe organization.
Qualifications
- Registered Nursewith a current certificate of competence, in good standing, from the College ofNurses of Ontario.
- Bachelor’s degreein a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current member inrelated professional nursing, interest group, or association.
- Five (5) yearsleadership experience in a hospital environment.
- Experiencemanaging within a unionized environment with knowledge of the collectivebargaining process.
- Knowledge ofcurrent nursing and healthcare practices and trends.
- Must be computerliterate, with competency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel,computerized patient care and assessment programs.
- Working knowledgeof the Public Hospitals Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and ExcellentCare for All legislation.
- Proven ability tocoach and train with an understanding of adult learning principles.
- Ability to workindependently and be self-directed in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Produce highquality work while meeting deadlines.

KeyResponsibilities
Theprimary responsibilities of the Manager of Clinical Services – Acute Careinclude, but are not limited to, the following key duties and actions thatsupport clinical care and services :Manage and superviseday-to-day operations of clinical areas of responsibility, including staffingpatterns, patient flow, reporting requirements and resource allocation.Monitor workload data and patient volumes / activity andadjust staff and resources accordingly.Maintain all required records, reports, statistics, etc.,for both patients and department personnel in accordance with policies,procedures and legislative requirements.Ensure departments operate within the operatingbudgets established and within alignment of organizational priorities.Supervise staff and support departmentalcommunication and staff development, including holding regular staff meetings,completing performance evaluations and responding to staff needs and issues.Identify, review and support educationalinitiatives that align with operational and strategic outcomes.Maintain requiredrecords, reports, and statistics for both patients and department personnel inaccordance with policies, procedures, quality improvementindicators / initiatives and legislative requirements.Review and complete follow-up incident reports and identifyand communicate trends to quality, professional and leadership teams.Identify and take appropriate actions to prevent and minimizerisks and investigate, respond and report sentinel and critical events.Perform other duties asassigned.In collaboration withappropriate team members, implement, monitor and revise patient care and unitprocesses and procedures to ensure smooth operation of clinical units.Ensure appropriatesystems and resources are in place to support timely and appropriate patientflow and smooth transition and coordination of patient services across thecontinuum of care.Ensure programs are inplace to assess and evaluate all quality of care processes and outcomes incollaboration with the Vice President Clinical Services & Chief NursingExecutive, and members of the health care team and corporate quality, safetyand risk programs.Ensure that theprovision of patient care complies with standards, guidelines, policies andprocedures, and legislation.Promote, facilitate andexemplify positive patient relations supports and demonstrate the Mission,Vision and Values of the organization.About the Community
