Our client in York Region, ON is actively looking for a Payroll Manager to join their team.
The Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring that all payroll activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with legislative and organizational requirements. This role oversees full-cycle payroll for both unionized and non-unionized employees, supports payroll staff throughout each pay period, and manages the Electrician Apprenticeship Program in collaboration with Human Resources and relevant training authorities.
Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage end-to-end payroll operations for multiple groups of union and non-union employees using a third-party payroll platform.
- Provide guidance and support to Payroll Administrators or Analysts, assisting with processing as needed.
- Review, validate, and audit time entry data for accuracy, proper coding, and adherence to company policies and collective agreements.
- Prepare, reconcile, and submit payroll-related remittances, including statutory deductions, workers' compensation, employer health tax, and union benefit contributions.
- Produce payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders while ensuring accuracy and timely distribution.
- Oversee year-end responsibilities, including reconciliations, government filings, and issuing required tax documents (Ts, Ts, W-s, etc.).
- Address payroll inquiries from employees, government bodies, and auditors while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations.
- Provide detailed labour, job-costing, and site-specific reporting as requested by management.
- Ensure accurate posting of payroll journal entries and oversee the preparation of month-end financial documentation for the Finance team.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll files and employee records.
- Manage the Market Recovery Plan, working with site leaders to confirm eligibility and validate work records.
- Administer the Electrician Apprenticeship Program in partnership with Human Resources and external training bodies.
- Deliver responsive, professional service to employees regarding payroll matters.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance payroll processes and improve efficiency.
- Complete additional related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications :
Minimum years of progressive experience in full-cycle payroll management.At least – years of supervisory or team-lead experience.Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required.Significant experience administering payroll in a unionized environment.Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, or a related field is an asset.Experience with the Jonas payroll system is preferred.Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal payroll legislation.Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and organizational strengths.Experience with Canadian and payroll, including applicable tax regulations; interprovincial payroll experience is an advantage.Proven ability to process high-volume hourly union payroll (,+ employees).Experience using ADP Workforce Now for payroll groups of + employees.Core Competencies :
