Team & Job Overview

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC :

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

The Senior Software Engineer role is to provide design, implementation, technical support, guidance and advice for technical / software development and deployment activities related to the delivery of EDC’s customer-facing digital services. The services include enabling all EDC lines of business : commercial products (finance, insurance, lending), corporate services, information products, marketing, and sales.

EDC’s services are a large mix of various cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS,) and traditional on-premises systems. This role drives EDC’s customer experience (CX) focus with the wide technical expertise to leverage modern digital service designs, ecosystems, and technology. This individual works with various internal and external teams made up of Architecture Owners, Enterprise and Domain Architects, Systems, Information and Business Analysts, Product Owner, Scrum Masters, and Solution Support Specialists to deliver solutions that are secure, scalable and meets the changing needs of the organization.

The Senior Software Engineer provides technical direction aligned to EDC policies, future planning and standards development practices. This role coordinates design thinking, system analysis, solution design, functional and information integration, application development, deployment of capabilities and operational support and is responsible for coaching and mentoring more junior technical team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, codes, tests, and / or customizes business - IT solutions for own internal clients and external clients.
  • Collaborate with other agile team members to craft clear user stories, design tests for prototypes and products and continuously deliver product enhancements.
  • Develop distinctive code / scripts and / or configurations by participating in code reviews, stage approvals and communicating with other developers across delivery teams, both through ad hoc problem solving and through sprint planning.
  • Support non-technical team members in understanding the technical implications of design decisions through team trainings and through expressing day-to-day trade-offs.
  • Develop secure solutions by incorporating considerations for business context, failure modes, monitoring, compliance, and security in its work.
  • Ensure expectations are managed around delivery methods and timelines through communicating and disseminating agile processes with business stakeholders.
  • Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
  • Generates systems software engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Applies best practices and advanced methodologies, including Scrum techniques, to address and review system requirements, business processes, changing development and technology environments.
  • Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develops strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Leads the provision of expertise for the complex technical support issues including solution lifecycle management.
  • Conducts and participates in project artifact reviews.
  • Coordinates system and user change readiness to project timelines.
  • Responsible for the deployment leadership of solutions to production, ensuring security matters : DevSecOps.
  • Lead the transition of solutions to operations / support (up to date documentation, knowledge base, exceptions, and logs in place to assist with solution failures) including participating in the certification of the solution by architecture.
  • Investigates new technology opportunities in the area of specialization to support forward technology evolution planning and to aid in project planning estimation.
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction in software testing, focusing on test automation.
  • Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Management Information Systems or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in IT systems development, full Software Lifecycle or related experience
  • Knowledge of cloud services and on-premises systems development and implementation principles and practices.
  • Must be Business results oriented. Strong ability to translate business questions and requirements into technical solutions.
  • Strong Analytical ability with demonstrated application of technical problem solving and analytical tools and techniques. Ability to identify issues and risks and provide options analysis.
  • Strong functional knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials - General Ledger, Accounts Payables, Procurement, Billing, Accounts Receivables, eBilling, Financial Gateway modules
  • Ability to build complex queries in PeopleSoft
  • Ability to ramp up quickly on client-specific applications and tools in order to provide functional support
  • Ability to identify issues and risks and provide options analysis
  • Possess strong analytical, detail orientation, communication, client interaction, problem solving, troubleshooting and decision making skills
  • Understanding of SDLC and Agile Methodology

  • Background in Finance / Accounting processes
  • Experience with BI Tools (PowerBI, Oracle BI, Cognos)
  • Full-stack development experience (design, front-end and back-end development)
  • Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL
  • Exposure to Lean Methodologies
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
  • Software Engineer 18 : Salaries typically range from $92,355 to $123,140 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
  • Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, Brossard, Halifax, Calgary, or Vancouver.
