Job description

Employee Relations Advisor

Our Employee Care Advisor (ECA) is responsible for ensuring that our front-line staff are being supported in a manner that is consistent with Paladin’s expectations. This is primarily achieved through collaborating with Paladin’s management and supervisory teams to ensure fair and productive approaches are taken with the support, coaching, and development of our people. The ECA will also compile, analyze, and deliver purposeful metrics to our branch leads, as to assist them in driving effective change to achieve Paladin’s business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person site visits at airport checkpoints or over the phone interviews to solicit feedback from employees for further improvement in working conditions
  • Provide guidance to employees regarding career development within the company whether through submissions to the Career Coach or during site visits
  • Conduct investigations in coordination with shop stewards and union representatives
  • Act as the first point of contact for Managers to advise them on Labor Relations issues and interpreting collective agreements
  • Distribute communications from corporate departments from within Paladin to employees
  • Advertise internal promotional opportunities in coordination with unions
  • Support information sharing with Paladin’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee where applicable
  • Promote annual Paladin events, such as the summer BBQ, winter holiday party, "24 Hours of Thanks" and the "4 Pillars of Giving" with the support of the Social Committee and the Employee Care Team
  • Answer day-to-day HR inquires and questions for Paladin employees and liaise with interdepartmental leads to ensure employee concerns are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Be the point of contact for employees on matters pertaining to Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and create communications that increase the uptake and utilization of our industry leading extended benefits program (medical and dental)
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide data to the Employee Care Manager for analyzing trends and providing recommendations to the Senior Director of People & Culture and other operational leaders on how our proposed screening services program can be improved through adjustments to Paladin-owned training and management practices
  • Design and develop HR metrics and reports in support of department and company strategy and objectives
  • Research and consult with external sources to forecast and plan for changes and trends that may affect our business policies and practices
  • Conduct focus group surveys, compile data and comprise reportable metrics for the executive team
  • Other duties as required to assist with operational needs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an HR Advisor or Generalist in a unionized environment, preferably in the aviation or security industries
  • Ability to acquire Transportation Security Clearance (TSC) and eligibility for Federal Security Clearance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation
  • Experience interpreting and applying principles of collective agreements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, build strong working relationships, facilitate group discussions, and interact with people at all levels of the organization with tact, diplomacy, and in a professional manner
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills; demonstrated use of sound judgment and reliable decision making
  • Strong computer proficiency, specifically in Microsoft Office Suite
  • CPHR designation would be considered an asset
  • Fluency in French is an asset
  • Salary : $75,000 - $80,000

    Work Location : This position is based at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
