About the role

Coast Underwriters is looking for an Intermediate Commercial Marine Underwriter to join our growing team!

This is a hybrid opportunity based out of our office in Downtown Toronto.

What you’ll do here :

Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Coast’s underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager.

Focus on sustainable profitable growth

Analyze requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes, and recommend solutions

Support brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies

Use effective communication and negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company

Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner

Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events

Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals

Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements and cancellations.

Support team members within Coast Underwriters as well as other divisions at Intact

Maintain great relationships with brokers and travel for meeting as required

What you bring to the table :

University degree / College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience. Prior Marine experience is a desirable asset.

Strong customer service and time management skills

Demonstrate initiative, ability to work under pressure and flexibility to change

Team player possessing outstanding collaboration and communication skills

Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers

Inquisitive, analytical and self-motivated individual

Ability to make decisions in time sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action and take calculated risks

Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry

Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products

CIP designation or working towards designation

No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
