Salary Range
57,422.29 - $74,817.06 annually (Growth) which includes a 1-Grid Temporary Market Adjustment at full working level. In addition, eligible employees will receive a recruitment and incentive payment of $10,000 annually (payable in two semi-annual installments of $5,000 and pro-rated for partial periods of employment).

Job Summary
The Team
The Burnaby Youth Custody Services team is a dedicated and supportive group of 67 Youth Correction Officers, structured into 8 teams, each led by a Senior Youth Corrections Supervisor. They collaborate closely with internal teams and community partners, including Youth Mental Health, Probation Officers, Chaplains, and Elders. Using a trauma-informed approach, the team ensures safety and consistency for youth in custody, addressing their complex needs while enabling public safety. With a strong sense of camaraderie and mutual support, this courageous team is committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of vulnerable youth.
The Role
The Youth Corrections Officer plays a critical role in maintaining public safety, as well as the safety of both youth and staff within the custodial environment. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to build positive relationships with youth, helping them develop socially appropriate behaviors, boost self-esteem, and improve decision-making abilities. It also provides opportunity for personal growth, allowing you to develop valuable skills in communication, conflict resolution, and advocacy.

An Enhanced Screening Questionnaire will be forwarded to applicants by the hiring manager via email once the initial screening completed. This Enhanced Security Screening must be returned to the hiring manager to be considered for the competition.
COPAT : If you meet all the above stated Selection Criteria, you will be asked to complete the Correctional Officer Physical Abilities Test (COPAT). The Hiring Manager will contact you with instructions on how youmay register for COPAT. You will need to bring a completed Medical Clearance form (signed, stamped, and dated by a Medical Practitioner), your Valid Driver's Licence and your Valid First Aid Certificate. Successful completion of COPAT is a requirement of this position.
ENHANCED SECURITY SCREENING : Applicants who are successful after their interview and reference checks will be made a conditional offer of employment. Those applicants accepting this conditional offer will be required to complete / provide the following :

About this Position :
As a supernumerary regular employee, you will be guaranteed 1736 hours annually and will have all the benefits of a regular employee under the Collective Agreement except for permanent scheduled pattern. You will be placed on the callboard in order of seniority. When a permanent base position becomes available the most senior supernumerary regular employee will be placed into the position.

As the custody centre is a 24 hour operation. Successful applicants will be required to work evenings / weekends and a variety of shifts on an as and when required basis. Seasonal peaks in availability of work are to be expected.
There are multiple regular full-time positions available at the Burnaby Youth Custody Centre.
These positions have full time on-site requirements.
