  • THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION FOR 14 HOURS PER WEEK

JOB SUMMARY UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE DEAN OF ARTS AND GENERAL EDUCATION THE DARKROOM PHOTOLAB TECHNICIAN WILL MAINTAIN THE PHOTOLAB AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE AND FILM EQUIPMENT, AND ASSIST FACULTY AND STUDENTS IN THE DARKROOM LAB AS ASSIGNED

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lab maintenance, equipment and supplies :

  • Clean and maintain all equipment, containers and surfaces
  • Maintain stocks of photographic supplies and janitorial supplies
  • Research and suggest equipment purchases
  • Maintain a complete inventory list
  • Arrange for repairs when necessary
  • Maintain the loan and rental operations of cameras and accessories as required
  • Ensure a clean and safe darkroom following WHMIS and OHS
  • Replenish first aid supplies
  • Lab demonstrations :

  • Set up labs and assist teachers and students during photo lab demonstrations
  • Student Open Labs :

  • Troubleshoot lab and student technical problems
  • Offer support to students of various levels
  • Other :

  • Prepare and set up chemicals and darkroom for classes.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming & organized environment for students and staff
  • Organize pick-up of chemicals
  • EDUCATION : To have a college diploma in an appropriate specialty (Photography) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

    SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS  Working knowledge of darkroom chemicals and equipment

    Working knowledge of darkroom techniques

    Working knowledge of the use of film cameras and supplies

    Good Communication skills

    3 years experience in a darkroom an asset

    Autonomous – able to work with minimal supervision

    Able to communicate effectively with students and faculty

    Strong organizational skills

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Epson scan & Adobe Photo Apps an asset

    English advanced (oral and written)

    French Basic (oral)

    Operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities associated with the duties mentioned above

    Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of :

    English (advanced oral and written)

    French (basic oral)
