The Black Health Strategy team at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is seeking a casual, CH&E Associate to work as part of a provincial team that supports the spread and scale of AMANI : Mental Health & Substance Use Services for Black Youth ( www.amaniservices.ca ). AMANI is Canada’s first hospital‑community partnership dedicated to improving mental health and substance use health care for Black youth. AMANI supports a provincial network of hospital and community‑based partners working together to deliver culturally responsive, evidence‑based care across Ontario. The CH&E Associate will support the advancement of organizational transformation and systems changes in policies, programs and services for Black youth and their families across Ontario. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Black Health Strategy, with day‑to‑day work assignments provided by the project management team.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and developing knowledge mobilization activities, such as conferences and special events, organizing project meetings and consultations, organizing communities of practice and their evaluation, and collaborating with CAMH Public Affairs, broader CAMH departments, AMANI program sites, and the Black Health Alliance.
  • Supporting the development and updating of the AMANI website, project‑specific webpages, and marketing of online knowledge base resources.
  • Supporting the preparation and coordination of surveys, graphic design, data visualization media, and reports, which will include collecting and summarizing key performance indicators for AMANI programs / services and related initiatives.
  • Coordination of trainings, participant registration and tracking of participants.
  • Supporting the development of knowledge translation products, including online courses, outcome reports, and plain language summaries.
  • Creation and distribution of newsletters, and managing associated distribution lists.
  • Researching and synthesizing literature, and other duties including operational support to the Black Health Strategy team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

This position requires the incumbent to have lived experience as a member of Ontario’s diverse Black communities. The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience, preferably in a non‑profit or public sector environment. You will have a strong orientation towards health equity, community healing, social justice, and community building. Experience supporting health initiatives or community development work that centres the dismantling of anti‑Black racism, anti‑oppressive and anti‑racist practices, and culturally responsive care is an asset. You will be familiar with the addictions and mental health field, and particularly, youth mental health and substance use services, including services designed for Black communities. Familiarity with health systems and population health research, and with the concept and application of knowledge mobilization techniques are assets. You will have demonstrated success in event planning / coordination, project management activities, and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Superior organization skills are required, including using various software and online tools to organize and track information. Problem‑solving skills, prioritization skills, sound judgement, excellent time management skills, and attention to detail are essential. You will have a proven ability to set and meet priorities and deadlines, and to handle multiple assignments in a complex, high‑pressure and time‑sensitive environment. You will have experience in completing computer‑based tasks and possess strong working knowledge and proficiency in common PC software applications such as Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel), web‑based survey tools (e.g. REDCap), Customer Relationship Management software (e.g. Mail Chimp, Salesforce), internet search engines, social media and videoconferencing technologies. The successful candidate will possess the ability for self‑directed learning and work, as well as collaboration and teamwork. You will have demonstrated interpersonal skills and a proven record of accomplishment of working collaboratively and effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds and program areas within CAMH and across the healthcare system. An ability to communicate in languages other than English, including Indigenous languages spoken in Ontario and languages and dialects spoken in the African Diaspora is an asset.

While all qualified candidates will be considered, applicants who are members of diverse Black communities and reflective of intersectional Black experiences (e.g., members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, faith and traditional spiritual communities, newcomers, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.
