ELEMENTARY TEACHER- LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES

TEMPORARY / ONGOING- FULL TIME OR PART TIME

The Burnaby School District is on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Nations of Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish.

The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs.

The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program.

Burnaby School District invites applications from qualified ELEMENTARY TEACHERS - LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES for Full time or Part Time positions.

These positions are effective immediately.

Required TEACHER Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree or academic equivalent in an appropriate field of study;

Relevant methodology courses

Valid BC Teaching Certificate

Knowledge of a broad range of effective instructional strategies in order to meet the diverse needs of all students;

Knowledge of consultative and collaborative strategies; and

Recent, successful, substantive teaching or practicum experience in the relevant grade level

Required LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES Qualifications :

A Bachelor of Education degree or academic equivalent

A Master of Special Education or completion of Diploma in Special Education (consideration given to those who have completed a minimum of 15 credits out of the required 30 credits for Special Education Diploma)

Two years successful teaching experience in a regular program

Courses designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners equal to a minimum of 30 credits in the following areas : differentiated instruction, teaching children and youth with a variety of special needs, assessment / testing theory and practice (which includes Level B testing), strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum, teaching students with special needs in Inclusive settings, learning disabilities, giftedness, assistive technology or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Functional Behavioural Assessment and Positive Behaviour Support and Universal Design For Learning (UDL)

Demonstrated fluency and facility (both oral and written) in English and French if working in the French Immersion program

Successful teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level
