Continuous Improvement Manager

Position Purpose :

The CI Manager will lead Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts at the GATX railcar repair facility in Moose Jaw (2200 Caribou Street West). This role will serve as a site CI champion and play a key role in applying problem-solving discipline and Lean methods to GATX operations to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). The individual must be passionate about process transformation, operations management, strategy, and data-driven problem-solving.

The following are the key activities for the role :

• Assess business opportunities and develop strategies.
• Evaluate or assess industrial facilities to ensure that all opportunities for improvement have been explored.
• Develop flexible or integrated manufacturing systems and procedures.
• Conduct studies on the reliability and performance of plant facilities.
• Analyze costs of production, find ways to eliminate wastefulness in production processes, assess industrial facilities, Plan plant layouts and facilities, Design and conduct time studies and work simplification programs.
• Be the champion for Daily Visual Management (DVM) in the facility in the context of GATX's SQDC management framework. Support / coach / lead DVM efforts across all work centers and all levels within the facility, and ensure deep understanding and full adoption of SQDC.

Experience : ISO 14000 compliance analysis, Machine learning, Microsoft Visio, MS PowerPoint, MS Office, Lean Manufacturing, Mapping and data visualization software, Lean Six Sigma, Time and work studies, Scrum and Production System.

The Continuous Improvement Manager interacts primarily with department managers, service center managers and shop floor personnel. Through these interactions, the person in this position embodies the Lean tenet of “Go See, Ask Why, Show Respect,” in order to gain the trust of colleagues and effectively lead positive change. The incumbent must also be able to prepare, present, and defend recommendations and decisions to project sponsors and senior management.
