Ministry Overview
Athletes in Action (a division of Power To Change) is a ministry that seeks to help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport.
No matter what type of work those involved with Athletes in Action (AIA) do, whether they are staff or volunteers, we understand that our work collectively is to further this overall mission.
Position Overview
Action Club Head Coaches are part of a coaching team that live out the values of Faith First, Family Matters, First Class and Fun.
Coaches will engage with athletes who have a variety of skills and abilities. From beginner to experienced, Action Club provides programming for all athletes.
Each coach will be paired with a group or multiple groups for the duration of the club season. The seasons are each 8 weeks of programming : Fall (Oct - Dec) - Winter (Jan - March) - Spring (March - June).
Sport options currently include basketball, soccer, volleyball and more to come.
Primary Objectives :
- Introduce not yet believers to the gospel and provide opportunities for current believers to grow in spiritual maturity
- Coaches will be expected to help present AIA’s More Than a Game talks as well as lead small group discussions with participating athletes.
- Help fight negative views of sport by sharing the gospel and coaching with the goal of transformation.
- Facilitate a club experience that is first class
- Attend coach’s training, club meetings and orientation
- Work closely with a coaching team and additional AIA staff to ensure roles and responsibilities are accomplished
- Apply age and skill appropriate teaching techniques for skill development
- Network and build relationships with key influencers in the sports community.
- Communicate the stories and experiences of the club with the Regional Director
Education & Experience
- You have university degree or equivalent
- You have varsity / post secondary sports involvement
- You have previous coaching experience
- You have a deep and growing relationship with Jesus and desire to continue to grow as a leader
Required Skills and Abilities
- You have the ability to understand and implement coaching tools and strategies to promote skill development in athletes
- You have the ability to create a safe, fun and exciting learning environment
- You have the ability to work well within the structure of a team
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- You have an understanding of and passion for the athletic world
- You have a heart for Evangelism and the ability to communicate the gospel clearly
- You have good time management, an ability to be flexible and willingness to take initiative
- You have the ability to communicate effectively with small or large groups.
The position is salaried. AIA gains funds through camper registration, grants and donations.
