Your Opportunity

Gain experience in our diverse northern landscape, surrounded by expansive prairie fields, bustling urban centers, lush wetlands, boreal forests, and sprawling mountain passes. Discover hidden gems, stunning scenery, and friendly people as you explore our enormous backyard in all seasons. Alberta Health Services (AHS) can offer you a career that fits your lifestyle and numerous opportunities for professional growth and development.

Travel Expense Reimbursement

Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.

Where You Will Be Stationed

High Level is a multi-site hub station which provides services to the communities of High Level and Rainbow Lake. Located in Alberta’s most northern communities, it provides a secluded haven on the edge of untamed wilderness, where a variety of wildlife flourishes nearby. This area is within Mackenzie County which is home to nearly 21,267 people and is located adjacent to both the BC and NT border. This could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to live, work, and play in northern Alberta. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Description

As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.

You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are also physically demanding.

You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.

  • Applicants must be qualified to perform full operational duties as of start date.
