Could you be the full-time Maintenance Manager in Whitby we’re looking for?

Your future role:

Take on a new challenge and apply your leadership and operational expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside collaborative and results-driven teammates.

You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of assigned departments, driving efficiency and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (including supervisors, employees, and customers), provide technical guidance to staff, and oversee departmental policies and budgets, among other responsibilities.

You’ll specifically take care of managing unionized staff in a shop environment, but also coordinate investigations for customer issues and special projects.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Supervising and driving the performance of the shop supervisory team

  • Scheduling and attending regular meetings with managers, supervisors, employees, and customers

  • Responsible for overseeing both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities for coaches and locomotives to ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Manage unionized staff in a shop environment, ensuring adherence to labor agreements and operational efficiency.
  • Administering a service function to support 24-hour operations

  • Advising staff on technical and operational matters

  • Coordinating investigations and resolution of customer issues related to equipment maintenance

  • Preparing, administering, and managing departmental budgets

  • Developing and recommending new or revised departmental policies and procedures

  • Providing coaching and leadership for the development of subordinates

  • Interpreting and providing guidance to staff regarding collective agreements

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • 5+ years of management responsibility in a manufacturing or maintenance environment

  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance, work order, and scheduling techniques

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with diverse disciplines and levels, both internally and externally

  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication

  • Knowledge of working procedures and techniques utilized in trade environments

  • Strong interpersonal skills for training and coaching activities

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications

Things you’ll enjoy:

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from repetitive daily routines

  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and supportive colleagues

  • Contribute to innovative projects

  • Utilise our inclusive and dynamic working environment

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning programs

  • Progress towards leadership roles or specialized career paths

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognizes your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
