Role Overview
The F5 Web Access Firewall (WAF) Specialist will play a critical role in the Zero Trust Project under the Tech Debt Program, which focuses on mitigating risks and vulnerabilities for 66 critical applications for the Government of Alberta (GoA). This role involves securing web applications, safeguarding against web-based threats, and enforcing Zero Trust security principles, ensuring that only authorized and validated users and devices access specified applications, irrespective of location.
Key Responsibilities
F5 WAF Operations
- Plan, implement, and manage the F5 Web Access Firewall.
- Conduct daily operations to maintain security and performance.
Network Infrastructure Management
Modernize, manage, and support network infrastructure.Monitor, analyze, and report on network performance to ensure high availability per GoA SLAs.Perform software and hardware upgrades and migrations.Troubleshooting and Optimization
Diagnose and resolve network issues.Address application delivery and traffic management challenges.Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
Collaborate with team members, ministries, and stakeholders.Conduct cross-training and share knowledge to promote a service delivery model.Project Leadership
Lead or participate in networking projects, ensuring best practices in design, implementation, and documentation.Provide technical expertise for cross-functional IT projects.Documentation and Procedures
Develop and maintain network-related documentation and procedures.Prepare and present technical information to stakeholders.Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.Certifications :
F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator (F5-CA).F5 Certified Technical Specialist (F5-CTS).Experience : 8+ years in :
Developing best-practice documentation.IT infrastructure architecture and interdependencies.Migrating, upgrading, and optimizing F5 BIG-IP systems.Planning, designing, and troubleshooting Cisco Layer 1–3 technologies.Managing traffic and resolving application delivery issues.Working with network concepts, routing, switching, and firewall security.Using F5 Big-IP LTM, GTM, ASM, and APM modules.Troubleshooting TCP / IP, IP routing, HTTP / S protocols, and L2–L3 issues.Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Experience : 5+ years in :
Preparing and presenting technical documentation.Providing customer service troubleshooting and resolution.Planning, designing, and implementing IPv6 networks.Working with Alberta SuperNet or similar networks.Supporting networking for Microsoft Windows environments.Public sector IT environments.
