School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for Relief School Bus Drivers for the Kamloops area.
The successful applicant must possess a valid Class 2 Drivers license with an Air endorsement and have three years proven previous driving experience. Applicants must be able to successfully complete the School District’s pre-trip evaluation and road test.

Under the minimal supervision of the Director of Transportation, incumbent is responsible for safely transporting students over assigned routes and for reporting any mechanical failures or accidents.
TYPICAL DUTIES :
Operates a School Bus to safely transport students over assigned routes including field trips.
Performs pre-trip inspection prior to departure.
Keeps a log of extra trips taken.
Maintains internal cleanliness of the bus.
Reports mechanical failures and accidents to the appropriate supervisor.
Maintains appropriate behaviour and completes Discipline Reports on problem students being transported.
May be required to assist physically and mentally handicapped students when transporting them.
Other assigned job related duties.
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :
Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with the public, parents, students, teachers, Principals and other employees of the Board.
Ability to operate a School Bus and adhere to all safety and traffic regulations.
Ability to maintain discipline on a School Bus.
Knowledge of the mechanical operations of a School Bus.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Preferably Grade 12 supplemented by a Class 2 Driver’s License and Air Brake courses.
Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position and pass an annual medical examination.
Three years appropriate accident free driving experience, valid B.C. Class 2 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement and ability to successfully complete the School District’s pre-trip and road test.
Relief employees are eligible for Extended Health Benefits at their cost after 100 days worked.
