ABILITY MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST
PEOPLE & TALENT OPERATIONS

Reporting to the Manager, Talent Operations, the Ability Management Specialist will play a key role in the effective development and implementation of an Ability Management program that positively impacts organizational outcomes anAd employee engagement in ways that support equitable and inclusive experiences for all.
This role supports NorQuest through partnership with employees, People leaders, external parties, and union / association partners. They are responsible for managing cases and coordinating workplace accommodations for non-work-related illnesses and injuries, ensuring a safe and sustainable return to work experience for NorQuesters. HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Ability Management Program Development and Maintenance
- Develop an internal ability management program designed to support the college’s commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion, strategic outcomes, operations, and legislative requirements.
- Regularly monitor the effectiveness of ability management processes and develop and implement solutions as needed.
- Stay up to date through self-education on legislation, trends and emerging practices in ability management and employee wellness.
- Develop and track reports, metrics, and trends to measure programs. against stated objectives, enabling improvements.
- Communicate ability management trends and observations to relevant leadership groups to raise awareness of risks and to help inform approaches to improve overall employee experiences and wellness.
- Develop and provide training and education to People leaders and People & Talent Operations team members on the employer’s obligations as it relates to managing responsibilities associated with ability management (i.e. – duty to inquire, duty to accommodate, gradual return to work, etc.).
- Partner with the Manager, Talent Operations to monitor and manage service delivery of external vendors.
Case Management and Support
Collaborate and partner with People & Talent Operations team members as they liaise with People leaders to support Ability Management processes.Provide guidance to People leaders and facilitate return to work (RTW) meetings to ensure any required accommodations and the RTW schedules are appropriate. Monitor the RTW and provide updates to relevant parties as required.Respond to ability management inquiries and advise on topics ranging from simple processes to complex legislative interpretations.Provide specialized support and guidance to employees who are ill or injured with a focus on positive outcomes through an effective recovery focused approach.Input Ability Management data into all relevant systems (i.e. – HR Information System, Ability Management software).Analyze complex claims through fact gathering, reviewing medical information, and case investigation, seeking support from People & Talent leadership and legal advice where needed.Liaise with appropriate third parties to manage claims and seek independent medical evaluations including medical practitioners and experts, occupational testing organizations, employee assistance programs, etc.Support Employee Wellness Programs
Support and promote employee wellness programs (EAP, health clinics, gym memberships, etc.).Review and make recommendations for employee wellness program adjustments or enhancements.WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor’s degree in a related program required.Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certifications are strongly desired.Minimum 5 years in an Ability Management role.Experience working within a post-secondary or public organization is preferred.Demonstrated ability to developing and implementing programs and monitoring and adjusting for continuous improvement.Strong understanding of all relevant legislation associated with Ability Management.WHAT MAKES YOU A DIFFERENCE MAKER?

This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
