JOB DESCRIPTION

Apex is seeking a dynamic Senior Lead Consultant with extensive knowledge of organizational models, various Agile frameworks and best practices, and strong consultative skills to act as a Leadership and Enterprise Coach Internal Practice Consultant within our Consulting Practice as part of our Apex Systems Solutions Delivery Organization. This role will lead engagements, influencing people, leaders and management that directly interface with and oversee transformations. This role will also provide subject matter expertise and will help mentor Apex Systems’ internal consultants in their career growth and development. This role will be responsible for client deliverables, internal practice contributions and leadership. The Senior Lead Consultant will also provide technical subject matter expertise for Apex sales, solution management, and account teams during the scoping of new Strategy & Enablement opportunities. This role is hybrid and will require weekly onsite in London, Ontario requirement.

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Build strong client, industry, and technical community relationships and represent Apex Systems as leaders in Industry and Professional events and communities. Develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships.
  • Demonstrate expert-level technical knowledge, skills, and effective professional consulting skills. Serve as a subject matter expert. Build trust and respect among internal and external stakeholders and model collaborative teamwork.
  • Collaboratively work with client personnel to determine long-term vision and guiding principles, as well as scope with transformative change, while supporting the implementation of the vision.
  • Provide thought leadership and influence others to learn about agile principles and its benefits to become champions of change.
  • Develop engagement roadmap, communication plan and any related reporting for client delivery
  • Evaluate organizational culture and structure to identify barriers and impacts of initiatives and develop strategies that lead to successful adoption.
  • Develop a comprehensive Readiness Plan for implementation by evaluating the organizations preparedness for change.
  • Map the current state through Value Stream Mapping exercises and perform Value Stream Mapping exercises that design a future state. Recommend and define needed Value Streams, including required System Teams, to establish an enterprise system for delivery.
  • Support a shift to product-centric delivery versus project-centric delivery through various education and tactical recommendations.
  • Guide the Agile Transformation by creating a tailored Agile framework or suggesting an existing one that fits the organizations needs. Document comprehensively in a detailed, dynamic Playbook, while enhancing the Client’s current Agile practices to prevent redundant efforts.
  • Make recommendations to align the organization, define roles and responsibilities, and support major structural changes needed to optimize transformation outcomes.
  • Design a plan of action or roadmap to drive adoption and alignment with strategic initiatives across the enterprise. Be especially focused on lean portfolio management implementation efforts, as well as executive-level coaching to build buy-in and understanding.
  • Work continuously with the Client to overcome Agile maturity gaps through regular assessment of personnel, teams, programs, etc.
  • Oversee and mentor other team members, direct reports and coaches that are deployed to target programs and teams to ensure cohesive delivery of coaching, high-quality deliverables, meet project deadlines, and take responsibility for engagement and team success.
  • Support changes at all levels of the organization. Easily step into key roles, such as Scrum Master and Product Owner to execute and showcase how the role should be performed, which can be used as a teaching tool for new personnel.
  • Suggest key transformation metrics to evaluate adoption across the organization, as well as value delivered metrics to show if programs / teams are “working on the right things”.
  • Employ various techniques to increase collaboration, transparency, predictability, and delivery of value. Help implement new ways of thinking and working while creating a culture focused on value delivery and continuious improvement.
  • Work with Executives and Leadership to evaluate and recommend adjustments to annual funding practices and intake processes.
  • Strategically account for long-term sustainment of transformation through designing Centers of Excellence standards, establishing Communities of Practice, and staying in tune with the client’s technology and product initiatives to support mechanisms for cross-training and innovation.
  • Demonstrate professional level consulting skills, leadership skills, and executive-level communication / presentation skills. Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to acquire skills to meet business needs.
  • Continually innovate, seek creative solutions, and find new ways of adding value. Listen and seek to understand the client and meet their needs, proactively provide solutions and approach adversity with a consultative, solution-focused mindset.
  • Stay attuned to the future needs of the client and work with internal resources to identify opportunities.
  • Participate in sales pursuits by providing strategic guidance, estimates, scoping and other pre-sales activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 15+ years of overall agile experience
  • 8+ years of experience as an Agile Coach in a large organization
  • 5+ years coaching distributed teams at scale including at enterprise levels.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Design, Business Administration, Systems Engineering, Management Information Systems or related field (applicable education and experience may be substituted) Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Proven deep practical experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, Kanban, and other scaled frameworks ( LeSS, S@S, Spotify, etc.)
  • SAFe Certification preferred.
  • Coaching-related Certification preferred.
  • Experience developing Agile Transformation training materials and / or overseeing the creation of such materials.
  • Experience with leading an Agility assessment and framework design of similar size / scale.
  • Experience mentoring and directing other coaches to drive successful transformations.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide executives through the organizational design, agility transformation and transition from a traditional mindset to a Lean-Agile mindset.
  • Experience in various Agile-tracking tools, such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow etc.
  • Experience in Portfolio Management tools such as Planview, MS Project, Clarity, Basecamp, etc.
  • Well-versed in virtual coaching techniques and collaboration tools
  • Excellent creative, conceptual, storytelling, and analytic thinking skills
  • Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to work in team setting and independently.

  • Exceptional leadership, time management and organizational skills
