Job description

Looking for an individual in Western Canada, remote work setting with minimal travel (2-3 times / year) required, Monday - Friday 7.5 hours / day, $70,000 annual starting salary

Position Summary :

This position is a key management role which is responsible for planning, development, implementation and measurement of the effectiveness of the internal and external communications, marketing and public relations activities at the Association. Working in partnership with the Board, the management team and the employees, this role provides strategic leadership in communications, marketing and public relations initiatives and programs, counsel and support to facilitate the development and cultivation of a positive image and brand for the Association, in a high-performing organization with highly engaged members and employees.

Major Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates communications, marketing and media relations strategies to ensure the understanding and achievement of the Association goals, objectives and strategic direction.
  • Recommends, plans, manages (writes and / or edits) and evaluates communication initiatives and programs for the Board, the management team, and departments :
  • Quarterly Reports to the Board, Annual General Meeting notes, NHPC News, external emails, annual report, presentations, press releases, and other communication materials as required by departments
  • Maintaining a strong website and social media presence
  • Development and management of member engagement programs, membership recruitment and retention plans, and public awareness campaigns (including advertising)
  • Ensure consistent communication of the Association’s desired image and brand, strategic messaging to the membership, insurers, governments, stakeholders and the public
  • Liaise with the leadership team in communication strategy development and implementation
  • Communications and Marketing lead in Crisis Management and Business Continuity Plans
  • Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all internal and external communications materials and publications
  • Manages and evaluates the effectiveness of the Association website and social media
  • Develops and maintains strong and mutually positive relationships with communications and marketing stakeholders and suppliers
  • Acts as the Association's representative with media
  • Provides counsel, media relations training, issues management, change and transition management, and strategic communications, and marketing advice to the Association’s leadership
  • Oversees the development and implementation of the Discount Provider Program
  • Manages the appearance of all Association print and electronic materials
  • Develops short and long term departmental plans and budgets for communications and marketing initiatives and activities, monitors progress and evaluates results
  • Ensures that the Association regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinates and oversees its activities.
  • Works collaboratively with Association's Board, stakeholders, managers and staff on communications, marketing and public relations initiatives and activities
  • Responsible for the AGM content and implementation, as well as maintaining a strong relationship with the Parliamentarian
  • Development and management of initiatives that provide members with the ability to interact with each other, and for them to discuss issues (Connections Cafes)
  • Seeks community programs where members can volunteer
  • Supervises Communications & Marketing staff

  • Knowledge & Qualifications :

  • A strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes
  • Ability to coach and support senior leaders as spokespersons
  • Highly collaborative style
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing / editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, program participants, and other supporters
  • Able to work independently, create and implement new initiatives in line with the associations goals
  • Education & Experience

  • Post Secondary Education in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related discipline
  • Membership in the Canadian Public Relations Society, the International Association of Business Communicators, or similar association would be an asset
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive communications and marketing experience with demonstrated success
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organization would be an asset.
