Job description

Are you experienced with birds or have a parrot of your own? I'm a parrot owner from Terrace, British Columbia, looking for a caring, responsible and reliable individual to provide pet boarding services for my 29yr old Senegal Parrot in Terrace or Kitimat as needed. As a pet sitter, you'll have the opportunity to spend quality time with my feathered family member while ensuring their well-being. The daily pay for this rewarding opportunity is $30.00 per day, and it includes light tasks such as feeding, changing water, cleaning the cage and giving him some snacks, attention and playtime. He is good at entertaining himself and has never resorted to self destructive behaviours (feather plucking) that happens with neglected or malnourished parrots and gets attention and affection when he wants. He also spends a few hours during the day sleeping or resting. He would stay in your home with you. He spends most of his time perched outside the cage and mostly just uses the cage for sleeping and eating or chewing his cork block, so there can not be any other animals (dog, cat, reptile, etc) in your home that could harm him. Also no small children that would aggravate him or cause him stress. If he becomes aggravated or stressed due to the human interaction, he will bite which would be as bad as a medium size dog bite and a small finger is just the right size for his beak (which can chew through wood). If he's been aggravated or stressed by you and you put your face close to him to kiss him, he will bite your face. If you are bad at reading parrot body language and try and pick him up when he doesn't want to be picked up, he'll bite. Essentially, if he bites you; that's on you, you've done something that has triggered his need to defend or protect himself because that's all that parrots have at their disposal. They'll first try to move away from the perceived threat; then they'll lunge toward the threat as a warning and if the threat persists, you'll get bitten. Like most parrots, he is not good with strangers until he becomes familiar with you and that can take some time, so patience is important. If you’re a parrot owner, by this point you’ll be rolling your eyes and yawning. If you’re not a parrot owner you’ll have moved on to another ad by now. Parrots are not like any other pet and all your experience with dogs, cats, rodents, fish etc does not translate. If you have a genuine love for birds and experience in bird / parrot care, I'd love to hear from you. Your responsibilities will also involve maintaining a clean and safe environment for him, and ensuring that he is comfortable and happy during your time with them. Knowledge of bird behaviour and dietary needs is mandatory. He is a foodie and will want to eat whatever you are eating, except fish, seafood, chocolate and avocados, but he loves bits of fatty raw meat or chicken and starches (potatoes, bread, rice, etc) and fruits and vegetables. If you are interested in this pet sitting opportunity and believe you have the right qualifications, please feel free to message me to discuss further details.Thank you for considering this position and I look forward to finding the perfect pet sitter for my feathered companions! Please visit https : / / petsitter.com / jobs / terrace-bc-pet-sitter-wanted-30-daily-love-pets-join-us-job to view full details and to apply.
