Our client in York Region, ON is actively looking for a Press Set Up Technician (Progressive Die) to join their team.
Position Description :
- Operate stamping presses with a solid understanding of press controls, tooling safeguards, and related auxiliary equipment required for safe and efficient production.
- Identify and escalate equipment issues, tooling concerns, or process disruptions to the appropriate area lead in a timely manner.
- Ensure all tooling, components, and materials required for efficient die changes are available, ordered, or staged in advance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance and the toolroom, to support uninterrupted operations.
- Manage the operation of two presses at the same time, maintaining production continuity across both machines.
- Sustain production on one press while performing setup or changeover activities on a second press.
- Communicate clearly with area leadership and technical teams regarding operational challenges, tooling adjustments, or production requirements impacting multiple presses.
- Utilize die carts and die tables safely and effectively during setup and changeover processes.
- Operate overhead cranes within a – ton capacity range using approved slings or chains, in accordance with training and certification requirements.
- Adjust counterbalance air settings accurately based on tooling weight and press specifications.
- Perform tooling setups involving roll feeders, die protection systems, and related press automation.
- Load material coils onto uncoilers, prepare material for production, and feed strip through dies to initiate runs.
- Accurately enter production and setup data into manufacturing systems and follow assigned production schedules.
- Complete required safety inspections, including forklift safety checklists.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace before, during, and after setups, including thorough cleanup of surrounding work areas.
- Apply WHMIS / GHS guidelines when handling materials and working with hazardous substances.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
- Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, workplace standards, and documented procedures.
- Ensure work activities align with IATF quality requirements and ISO environmental standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support lean manufacturing practices, including S.
- Complete assigned training in accordance with the company's internal training framework.
- Carry out all responsibilities with a strong commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform additional tasks or reasonable duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Technical Requirements :
High school completion is required; additional post-secondary training in a mechanical or technical discipline is considered an asset.Current forklift certification is required, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification through company-provided training.Crane operation certification is required or willingness to complete and maintain training as needed.Demonstrated understanding of workplace safety protocols, including completing and documenting pre-setup safety inspections.Familiarity with First-Off and Last-Off production procedures.Working knowledge of safely handling, storing, and transporting tooling and equipment within designated areas.Ability to set up tooling for a variety of press applications.Experience operating press equipment using both manual and progressive die processes.Understanding of quality control documentation, including inspection records, SPC data, and verification fixtures.Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers.Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan ahead and ensure all materials and tooling are prepared for efficient setup, including quick die change systems.Hands-on experience with equipment start-up and shutdown procedures for press operations.Ability to perform equipment and tooling inspections at the start of each shift.Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.Solid mathematical aptitude relevant to manufacturing and setup processes.Flexibility to work overtime and provide additional support as required to meet production and customer demands.Previous experience in the Automotive Manufacturing industryIf you meet the above qualifications, please submit your resume.
