Job Description

What is the opportunity? As a Senior Immigration Advisor, you are the primary contact and trusted advisor, supporting the advancement and execution of the US Immigration strategy and policies for Temporary Foreign workers employed by RBC.

You will be accountable for adherence to US Immigration regulatory compliance on all employee files and operation processes, driving a consistent employee experience.

You will play an important role to act as a liaison between employees, business units, Human Resources, and suppliers to effectively manage expectations. What will you do?

  • Act as the RBC point of contact to advise on candidates and employees eligibility to work in the US; Advise the business on solutions, considerations, implications and risks of proposed talent moves / new hires at initial planning stages and throughout the employee’s lifecycle
  • Verify all RBC foreign workers within the US region have valid work authorization throughout their employment lifecycle, aligned with their changing status
  • Accountable for operational components of managing immigration files population for North America, specifically for the USA.
  • Ensure all files are administered per immigration requirements / regulations; proactively track status and ensure appropriate follow-up with stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic oversight / recommendations on operational processes to ensure immigration compliance on all files.
  • Balance the mitigation of risks while supporting business objectives and the employee’s specific needs.
  • Liaise with suppliers ensuring issues are dealt with and / or escalated appropriately
  • Ensure effective records retention and tracking of all information for employee immigration files for both internal / external audit.
  • Stay abreast of changes to legislative / regulations and recommend means to integrate them into case management.
  • This role is hybrid with 2 to 3 days on site in Toronto or Mississauga

What do you need to succeed? Must-have

  • Demonstrated expertise in US Immigration Law as a Lawyer, Paralegal
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in US immigration role
  • Ability to analyze and translate complex immigration information into understandable and actionable guidance for stakeholders
  • Professional work ethic, can-do attitude with passion for delivering excellent employee experience
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong ability to deal with ambiguity and navigate through complex issues
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working under pressure on multiple cases with appropriate speed and accuracy
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize work and multi-task effectively

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in Project Management
  • Licensed Immigration Consultant (RCIC)
  • Experience in implementation of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) solutions to enhance process / reporting capabilities;

Strong technical capability

Experience working in Financial Services and / or within Human Resources
