About the Role

As part of the Complex Risk Solutions Group (CRSG), you are integrated into a responsive multi-disciplinary team that excels at providing a full range of services to our Clients.

The function that a Risk Control Engineer has within the team is to provide technical knowledge about the Client businesses so that we may effectively deal with risk.

This is not limited to risk transfer solutions but may include other risk treatment options such as risk improvement approaches.

What You’ll Do

  • Undertake risk assessments of facilities and management systems both alone and with Underwriter Engineers that are representing program participants.
  • Conduct and review MFL, PML and NLE studies of client facilities.
  • Provide property risk control advice to clients on specific risk control topics for risk mitigation.
  • Conduct business interruption interdependency and contingency studies for select client operations.
  • Prepare Engineering Survey Reports used for insurance placement.
  • Develop client risk profile and strategic documentation to facilitate effective insurance program renewals.
  • Act as a liaison between Underwriter Engineers and client representatives and assist clients in responding to Underwriter recommendations.
  • Monitor property loss prevention inspection reports, recommendations, and follow-up commentary to Underwriter Engineers and / or third-party service providers.
  • Carry out risk control design reviews on new projects and facility upgrades to ensure cost effective loss mitigation investments are made when they are most cost effective and to ensure ongoing insurability.
  • Recommend risk improvement strategies and initiatives in alignment with client business plan objectives.
  • Review client procedures such as Emergency Response, Crisis Management, Business Continuity Plans and Supply Chain management and provide commentary that reflects insurance requirements.
  • Conduct research on specific property risk control topics for client risk mitigation.
  • Review large property loss investigations to understand probable cause and prevent similar future client losses. Communicate the findings to clients.
  • Develop and deliver information sessions for clients.

What You Bring

  • Engineering degree and a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Residence.
  • 10 or more years of Property Risk Control insurance experience with Natural Resource Industry Clients (oil and gas, mining and metals processing, chemical processing, and power generation including renewables).
  • The unrestricted ability to travel out of country to visit Client facilities as required.
  • Capable of acting independently and a self-starter.
  • Strong verbal and written English skills. Additional language skills in the geography that our Clients are active in, is a plus.
  • Experience with other lines of Risk Control such as machinery, liability, and construction, is a plus.
  • Client industry experience is a plus.
