Financial Analyst (Government)

Our client, a government institution, has openings for two temporary contract roles within the Financial Planning Unit of the Ministry of Health. Reporting to the Manager, these positions will play a pivotal role in collecting and analyzing financial data to produce ministry forecasts and budgets.

Responsibilities :

  • Monitor the Ministry budget and assist with the preparation of quarterly forecasts.
  • Collaborate with program area clients to analyze, validate, and explain spending trends against the budget, develop forecasts, and address variances.
  • Consolidate and analyze large volumes of financial data, adapting communication to suit various stakeholders.
  • Maintain and monitor financial system coding and reports.
  • Review contracts and grants for budget availability.
  • Prepare government Estimates, Committee of Supply Briefings, Annual Reports, and Quarterly Fiscal Updates.
  • Provide clear and concise financial advice and guidance to client areas.
  • Respond to ad-hoc and urgent financial requests.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • What you will need to succeed :

  • Relevant post-secondary education in business administration or accounting.
  • Pursuing CPA designation is an asset.
  • 1+ year of experience with MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • 1+ year of experience creating and managing project forecasts and actual budgets.

  • 1+ year of experience with Business Intelligence analytical tools such as Excel PowerPivot.
  • Experience within a Canadian Public Sector organization is preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience providing strategic advice related to organizational financial planning.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role with applicable experience.
  • Selection Process

  • Application Review : Applications will be reviewed to identify candidates who best meet the qualifications.
  • Anticipated Interview Dates : Assessments and interviews are tentatively scheduled between February 10 and February 14 . These dates are subject to change.
  • Assessment : Short-listed candidates will be required to complete a 1-hour Writing and Excel Assessment to evaluate analytical problem-solving, writing skills, and advanced Excel proficiency (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas, Power Query).
  • Interviews : Candidates who perform well on the assessment may be invited to an official interview.
