The City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our senior leadership team, as the Director of Environmental Services.

Hours : 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8 : 30 AM – 4 : 30 PM

Salary : Grade 3 ($163,998.85 - $195,236.59)

PURPOSE AND SCOPE :

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Environmental Services provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and direction for Environmental Services Department. The role ensures effective management and supervision of departmental functions, with accountability for regulatory compliance, asset management, and efficient operations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Provide leadership and direction to Department management by fostering a cohesive and effective team, modeling core values, promoting collaboration and professional development, ensuring effective communication and aligning staffing resources with organizational needs.
• Manage the assets and operations of the City’s environmental facilities including water treatment plant and distribution systems, wastewater treatment plant and collections systems, stormwater management infrastructure, closed and active landfills, and contaminated sites.
• Ensure effective implementation of corporate policies and programs within the Department.
• Ensure departmental compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Act and other employment and labour legislation.
• Represent and promote the Department with Council, Senior Administration, staff, community stakeholders, boards, intergovernmental bodies, media, and committees.
• Lead and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize service delivery and foster a culture of customer service excellence across the Department and Corporation.
• Develop, administer and control the Department’s operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations and sound financial management.
• Oversee procurement of supplies, services, materials, and utilities in accordance with the City’s Purchasing By-Law and approved processes.
