You have a strong interest in sustainable transportation, greenhouse gas / pollution reduction, electric-grid resiliency, community engagement, and community health in Nova Scotia, or a demonstrated willingness to learn about these areas of climate action.

You bring experience in community engagement, are a proactive self-starter and are passionate about climate justice.    ABOUT THE POSITION :    The Energy Efficiency Officer will support EAC’s Energy Coordinator and help to shape the direction of and deliver EAC’s Electric School Bus program.

This includes building community support for school bus electrification, Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technologies, as well as centering and elevating the decarbonization of student transportation within public discourse. Key elements of this work will include stakeholder coordination, development of public materials, conducting research and engaging in administrative tasks to support the implementation of the Ecology Action Centre’s fleet electrification initiatives.  Key Responsibilities   Provide administrative support and assist with the implementation of the Ecology Action Centre’s School bus Electrification Initiative   Proactively support activities which engage teachers, bus drivers, health advocates, municipalities and professionals to mobilize support for the deployment of electric school buses (ESBs) and Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicle (MHDV) fleets.

Motivating factors are student health and safety, emissions reductions, grid balancing, and youth / public education relating to sustainability.   Provide assistance with the coordination of other non-profit organizations engaged in similar work, including the Conservation Council of New Brunswick and the Canadian Electric School Bus Alliance (CESBSA).   Support the EAC’s engagement with stakeholders involved in fleet electrification, and V2G adoption, including manufacturers, operators, managers, the power utility, and government officials.   Assist in generating media coverage, producing online content as requested, including blogs, press releases, public reports and social media.   Coordinate the development of supportive materials aimed at demonstrating public support for fleet electrification and bi-directional charging, including videos, open letters, op-eds and briefings.   Understand the role of student transportation in the larger pathway to net-zero emissions and in efforts to promote grid stability.   Support and lead student engagement, assisting with training and projects.   WHAT YOU BRING   Experience supporting advocacy campaigns, with at least 6-months experience  in advocacy campaigning, project administration, or communications.   Degree or equivalent experience-based learning connected to education, administration, environmental science, sustainability, planning, engineering, public policy or related field.   Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe and Canva.   Strong oral written and communications Skills   Experience with relationship-building, consultations and public education     Ability to synthesize and distill large amounts of detailed information over a broad range of research   Willingness to participate in and support the overall work of the Ecology Action Centre.   Familiarity, experience or willingness to learn about; grid resiliency, energy management, electric vehicles, and bi-directional charging.   Commitment to environmental justice.   Other skills and experience considered an asset :   Bilingual and able to read and communicate in French / English.    Experience working on energy or transportation programs and policy.  Experience working with governments on policy matters.  Experience working and / or volunteering in a non-profit organization.   TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :     Term position – 36-weeks, April 2026 - December 2026, with possibility of extension contingent on funding  Full time, 4 day, 30 hr work week, Monday - Thursday with some flexibility in the workday.  Find out more about our 4-day work week here   Remuneration :  $29.40 / hour, 4% vacation pay   Hybrid work environment requiring 1-2 days in our office in Halifax’s North End.  TO APPLY    Please submit your resume and cover letter here. The closing date is Monday, February 23, 2026  We thank everyone who applied; however, we will only be contacting those who will be interviewed.  Powered by JazzHR
