Job Description

The Field Surveyor plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and reliable surveying data for the Ontario Line South project. This position requires flexibility and adaptability to work in a rotating 24 / 7 shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and on-call duties. The Field Surveyor will be responsible for performing survey-related tasks, gathering essential data, and supporting field operations to maintain project accuracy and structural integrity across various phases of construction.

Primary Responsibilities :

Surveying and Data Collection :

  • Conduct precise surveying and data collection tasks as required by project specifications, including setting out points, checking alignments, and staking out key project features.
  • Assist in the acquisition of data related to the project network and ensure that all data is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with project requirements.

Support to Senior Surveyors :

  • Provide field support to Senior Surveyors, assisting with tasks as needed to manage workload efficiently.
  • Respond to survey requests across various sites not limited to specific station areas, ensuring consistent surveying coverage.
  • Stakeout and Equipment Management :

  • Set up, adjust, and calibrate surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and laser levels to ensure precise measurements.
  • Conduct regular checks and maintenance of equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy in the field.
  • Network and Control Point Maintenance :

  • Install and maintain control points and network brackets to ensure continuity and accuracy in surveying operations.
  • Support in the implementation, measurement, and maintenance of the project survey network.
  • Documentation and Reporting :

  • Generate accurate field reports on surveying activities, production progress, and any discrepancies encountered.
  • Maintain records of measurements, monitoring activities, and any adjustments required, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for the project team.
  • Collaboration with Digital and Monitoring Teams :

  • Coordinate with the Digital Delivery department, assisting in drone flight operations and supporting digital data collection as needed.
  • Perform monitoring measurements as specified in project guidelines to ensure project compliance and assist with quality control.
  • Continuous Learning and Improvement :

  • Actively seek opportunities to improve surveying knowledge and skillsets.
  • Mentor and support survey assistants, fostering a collaborative and growth-focused environment.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field, OR 5 to 10 years of experience in construction surveying, with a strong understanding of civil works practices.
  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and laser levels.
  • Previous experience in construction surveying for large-scale infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Leica surveying equipment is an asset.
  • Adaptability to rotating work schedules (day / night shifts) and varying weather conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear and effective reporting.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Able to work safely and effectively in public spaces and active construction zones, prioritizing awareness and safety at all times.
