The Company

Our client is a fast-growing private equity and mortgage lending company that specializes in providing customized financing solutions. They have experienced phenomenal growth over the last 7 years and thrive on passion, entrepreneurial spirit, and top tier talent. They are seeking an Underwriter to support their expansion into the Ontario market.

The Role

As the Underwriter you will play a crucial role in managing the administrative aspects of the mortgage application and renewal process, ensuring that all required information and documentation is collected and processed efficiently. You will report into the Vice President of Sales & Origination, and you will collaborate with a variety of internal departments within your role, as well as serving as the primary contact for borrowers and mortgage brokers.

This role requires the ability to multitask effectively and handle multiple files simultaneously.

Your main responsibilities will include :

  • Underwriting mortgage investments and creating mortgage summaries to be reviewed by the credit committee.
  • Prepare, organize and categorize mortgage files in preparation for review by directors, banks and auditors.
  • Follow-up on outstanding mortgage documentation for both new deals and renewals.
  • Foster relationships with mortgage brokers and brokerages.
  • Ensure that all work is handled in full compliance within company and provincial guidelines and standards.
  • Other related tasks and responsibilities as required.

The ideal candidate will come with the following :

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, finance or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Underwriter within lending, banking or a financial institution is preferred.
  • Licensed Mortgage Agent in Ontario or willingness to complete the Mortgage Agent course within 3 months.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect and build relationships with various stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding organization skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize time sensitive matters.
  • Flexibility with time and a willingness to work extended hours as needed to meet business demands.
