Purpose and General Description :

The Engagement Coordinator will play a key role in implementing NCC’s engagement programs and communication plans in Manitoba. The goal of this position is to increase NCC’s capacity to connect with the communities in which we work by fostering strong relationships with community partners, landowners, volunteers, media, and other members of the public. Through public outreach and communication activities, the Engagement Coordinator will contribute to NCC’s robust conservation program and develop regional communications products for a wide range of development and public outreach needs. This role will also work remotely with Saskatchewan staff with the creation of communication strategies and materials.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop, coordinate and deliver public engagement events in Manitoba. These will include volunteer stewardship events, guided nature walks, public talks, education presentations, and other outreach events that help to connect the public with NCC’s mission and mandate.
  • Manage the administrative and promotional end of engagement events across Manitoba. Provide support for other events across the province as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of an effective Conservation Engagement Program in Manitoba.
  • Develop regional communications products for a wide range of public outreach needs. This could include, but is not limited to, fundraising materials, media releases, web content, social media copy, impact reports, property and interpretive signs, speaking notes, and presentations for use by regional staff for both internal and external audiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Attributes :

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in an environmental, education, or communications-related discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Direct experience with public outreach, event coordination, and / or volunteer management.
  • Experience in resource management, habitat assessments or ecology.
  • Technical skills

  • Driver’s license is required.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience with databases and / or design software is an asset.
  • Competencies and interests

  • A keen interest in nature; knowledge of Manitoba habitats and species is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; confidence and comfort when organizing and leading groups of people.
  • Demonstrably excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, initiative-taker; problem solving will be an essential skill.
  • Ability to see creative solutions and contribute ideas to a developing program area.
  • Superior time management skills and ability to meet deadlines; organized, strategic thinker who can balance competing priorities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, and some travel within Manitoba.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, team-player; willingness to support other staff to achieve both conservation and engagement deliverables.
  • Prioritization of workplace safety in the field or office environments.
  • A commitment to the cause and mission of the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
  • Terms of Employment :

  • Full-time (37.5 hours / week), 12-month position (August 26, 2024 – August 29, 2025) with potential to extend contract dependent on funding availability.
  • Location : Based out of Winnipeg but requires some travel throughout Manitoba
