Job Description
Investigators are accountable for task investigations, evidence gathering and evaluation of assigned investigative tasks and providing quality technical resources to the Senior investigators. This includes making recommendations to the Senior investigators on the outcome of an investigative task and any further steps required. Investigators are responsible for establishing a network of contacts and developing relationships with all levels of law enforcement and other investigative agencies such as IBC, etc., and participating in the investigation of organized fraud rings as required. This position requires the Investigator to be in the field a majority of the time and therefore the ability to self-manage, work independently and use strong judgement on daily prioritization is required.
Key Accountabilities
- Travel outside an assigned region, although limited, may be necessary and required. Overnight travel, on occasion, may be required.
- Conduct thorough and detailed field tasks and investigations of suspect fraud and varying degrees of complex cases with a focus on loss recovery and / or prevention while being sensitive to and protecting the culture of client services.
- Conduct in‑person interviews and obtain detailed recorded statements from all involved parties.
- Conduct vehicle inspections, medical facility visits, neighborhood canvasses and on scene investigations.
- Prepare comprehensive investigative reports for Claims, Business Units, and / or outside agencies and make recommendations regarding action to be taken regarding the investigation if required.
- Attend examinations under oath and / or sworn statements including those involving legal representation.
- Provide professional testimony in criminal and civil proceedings.
- Participate in the development of departmental procedures and directives.
- Participate in team success, gathering all the necessary resources; paying attention to interdependency of common objectives and to the need of combining necessary competencies.
- Maintain contact during the course of SIU investigations with investigative specialists, claims personnel, legal professionals and government / regulatory agencies as required.
- Assist, consult with, and advise Claims employees in recognizing and resisting fraudulent claims.
- Make recommendations regarding the retention of experts, private investigators, and other expenditures.
Job Requirements
Must be flexible with working hours as required to connect with clients.Expert knowledge of investigative techniques, related laws governing collection and retention of evidence, court proceedings, and financial / criminal trends.Expert knowledge of insurance products, systems, policies and procedures and Insurance Act and legislations.Strong critical and analytical thinker with the ability to conduct complex field investigations.Superior knowledge of the principles of casualty, residential and automobile insurance and the claims adjustment processes associated with each.Strong interviewing and communication skills – both verbal and written.Robust organizational and reporting skills and effective time management.Ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as with key stakeholders.Proven track record of high level performance; investigators must have a clear understanding of SIU and claim processes, practices, and perform investigative activities in line with all applicable laws and regulations.Must possess and exercise strong leadership skills.Ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization and among external sources such as vendors, law enforcement, and industry groups.Strong customer focus.Seniority Level
