Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.

RBC is currently seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Laboratory Manager for the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The primary role of this position is to provide support for undergraduate labs at the college. Reporting to the Chair of Natural Science, this individual will be an integral part of our academic community, whose major responsibilities include :

• Maintaining and organizing several undergraduate biology and chemistry teaching labs and storage rooms.
• Assisting faculty with the setup and cleanup of student laboratory experiments in biology and chemistry.
• Ensuring that hazardous substances are stored and maintained properly, and that lab safety equipment is properly maintained and in working order.
• Performing the duties of lab safety and chemical hygiene officer for the department as assigned, including maintaining the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) for chemicals used in the department.
• Ordering supplies and equipment for the department in accordance with the college’s purchasing procedures.
• Teaching introductory Biology laboratory sections for the department on an as-needed basis.
