Job Description

The Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Université Laval is inviting applications for the position of Professor in Computational Analysis of Political Data. Candidates from all subfields of the discipline are encouraged to submit their application for this rapidly growing field.

Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and the graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) levels, supervising graduate students, engaging in research activities, publications, and outreach, active participation in university committees, and any other activities outlined in the collective agreement for professors.

The successful candidate will be integrated into the Department of Political Science at Université Laval as a regular professor starting from July 1, 2024, or an earlier date.

Selection criterias

  • Having completed Doctorate in Political Science or a related discipline (applications at the stage of initial dissertation submission will be considered).
  • Having an excellent record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrating strong teaching and pedagogical skills.
  • Being able to teach research methods at all three levels of study using the R programming language.
  • Showing proficiency in collaborative languages such as Git and mastery of advanced techniques such as text analysis, network analysis, spatial analysis, and automatic image analysis are considered assets.
  • Complementary research networks with the department, notably at the international stage, will be considered an asset.

Université Laval is a French-speaking institution where teaching and participation in committees are conducted in French. New professors whose native language is not French receive support from the institution to reach the required level of language proficiency for their duties.

Regular full-time professorship leading to tenure. Hiring is open to all ranks. Salary according to the current collective agreement.
