Job description

Job Summary

The Trades Trainee is an entry level role that provides job and crew support while being trained with supervised exposure to the Powerline Technician (PLT) trade. The Trades Trainee will be provided with the knowledge and basic job skills for entry into the PLT Apprenticeship Program. The Trades Trainee must possess the ability to work at heights, confined spaces, trenches, and excavations, have good hand-eye coordination, be precise and detailed, and have the ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Pay rate : $32.79 per hour

Location : Burnaby, Surrey BC

Job Type : Full Time

Responsibilities

  • Performs physical labour duties as a PLT assistant to help Journeyman workers
  • Operates forklifts, carts, dollies and other equipment, as required
  • Assists with snow removal and yard access requirements
  • Loads, unloads and moves materials around the worksite
  • Moves and secures company equipment and vehicles, as needed
  • Assists with cleaning, recycling and waste disposal
  • Works with hand and power tools, as required
  • Assists with ordering supplies and maintenance materials
  • Maintains clean and organized work environment
  • Assists with maintaining a safe work environment and adheres to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Participates in health and safety related duties
  • Other general yard and maintenance duties, as needed

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, carry out a variety of duties requiring significant physical effort, crouch and bend through the shift
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently in a busy environment
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Able to work efficiently with others
  • A high commitment to personal safety and the safety of others

  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Education, Training & Experience

  • Experience running construction equipment is an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude such as construction experience, mechanics, or exposure to trades
  • Must have a valid Class 3 Driver’s License at a minimum (Preferred Class 1)
