We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to assume the position of Geomatics Officer with the Corporate Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management & GIS, the Geomatics Officer provides spatial data management, analytics and technical support services for the City's Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS). This position works collaboratively with all departments and closely with the System Analyst - Asset Management & GIS and Asset Management Coordinator to provide a high caliber of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS : This position requires the incumbent to have a post-secondary diploma in geography, GIS, environmental science, geomatics engineering, or a related field. In addition, a minimum of three years of related experience in GIS, or a related field performing the following types of tasks :

  • Designing, creating, and updating thematic maps and spatial data products using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Adobe).
  • Collecting, cleaning, transforming, processing, and analyzing spatial data from various sources, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Operating and processing data collected via GNSS receivers (e.g., RTK, PPK techniques).
  • Managing and maintaining large geospatial datasets in various formats (e.g., spatial databases, shapefiles, file geodatabases, KML) using industry-standard GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, PostgreSQL / PostGIS)
  • Conducting spatial analysis to identify spatial relationships, trends, and patterns in geospatial data, providing actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Writing and maintaining scripts in SQL, Python, or R to automate data cleaning, transformation, processing, and visualization tasks, ensuring efficiency and reproducibility of GIS workflows.
  • Operating UAVs to capture high-resolution aerial imagery, planning and executing drone flights, and processing the imagery into orthomosaics, digital surface models (DSMs), and 3D models for spatial analysis

SALARY :

The City of Yellowknife offers a starting salary of $86,829.74, as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension plan, and monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totaling $450.
