The Fleet Services Division of the Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Mechanic II (Automotive Repair Technician) to join the Fleet Services team in Bible Hill.

About Our Opportunity
You use specialized tools and equipment located in government facilities designed and equipped for automotive body and assist with field repairs as required.
Primary Accountabilities
As the Automotive Repair Technician, under the general supervision of the Fleet Services Coorindator you will complete automotive repairs and rebuild light vehicle modifications to a variety of government mobile machinery and equipment used to perform road maintenance activities for both summer and winter operations.
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 and a Provincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in the Automotive Repair Trade; plus a minimum of five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience is required. Provincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in Truck and Transport Repair, or Air Conditioning Certification would be considered assets. A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and mechanic tools are required.
A knowledge of computer-controlled engine diagnostic technology and competency as well as a general knowledge for determining paint codes and parts would be considered an asset along with demonstrated oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Upon hire, applicants will be required to successfully complete Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) training as part of their probationary requirements.

In this role you consistently demonstrate initiative, remaining up to date in changes to equipment, methods and technology within the mechanical field. Strong communication skills are necessary for the times when you will be helping staff diagnose and resolve equipment issues. You must also be able to work effectively with minimal supervision as most of the time will be spent working independently. Professionalism and a high standard for client and customer service is required.
You will be assessed on the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools : practical driving test, written examination, interview, and reference checks.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a mechanical repair environment occasioned by noise, smoke and gas fumes and at times adverse weather conditions while operating in a field environment. Considerable standing, lifting, carrying and moving about is a requirement of this position.
Additional Information
There is one (1) opportunity in Bible Hill in Zone 14 covering the Northern Fleet Services Area including Zones 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, and 24.
This opportunity is for a 52-week Year-Round position – the duties of which are full time and continuous in nature.
You must bring your own mechanical tools.
