Job description

Victoria Newitt Recruitment Inc has been retained by our client to search for their next VP Finance.

Our client, a privately held manufacturer has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, evolving from a “mom and pop shop” into a strategically focused corporation poised for substantial growth through both organic expansion and acquisitions.

The newly created Vice President of Finance role will oversee the finance and administration team and serve as a key member of the Company’s Executive team. Reporting directly to the President, this position is designed to be a cornerstone of a high-performing executive team tasked with steering the company through its planned strategic initiatives and organic growth.

Role :

As the VP of Finance, you will be responsible for helping grow the business strategically and operationally. This position will lead all aspects of financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, risk management, and corporate finance to support the growth and development of the company. Within this entrepreneurial environment, there is an opportunity to raise capital, structure deals, and significantly impact the growth of the business. This role will also oversee legal, HR and some aspects of IT.

Responsibilities :

The VP of Finance will perform a wide range of duties including some or all of the following :

  • Participate in key decisions as a member of our Executive leadership team
  • Working with the Controller, develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports
  • Accountable to maintain the financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, bank reconciliations and petty cash
  • Report financial status weekly, and as required, to leadership team
  • Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts
  • Negotiate and manage the employee insurance, RRSP and benefit plans
  • Negotiate and manage insurance policies
  • Review monthly results and implement monthly / quarterly variance reporting
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate
  • Oversee all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner
  • Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation for various departments
  • Manage the production and implementation of the annual budget in consultation with the Executive Team
  • Review spending of all departments while looking for areas to lower costs
  • Track, review and calculate inventory
  • Negotiate with financial institutions for lines of credit or other financial services as required and appropriate
  • Ensure all tax remittances are filed, including GST,PST, & Income Tax Installment payments
  • Ensure all other monthly / quarterly remittances, such as WorkSafeBC and Accounts Receivable insurance reports are filed
  • Month / Quarter / Year end procedures
  • Facilitates audits with third party accounting firm and government
  • Financial reporting to the bank to facilitate access to loans / lines of credit
  • Research and apply for government grants / rebates where applicable (i.e. SR&ED)
  • Manage the IT infrastructure
  • Review and manage legal documents
  • Assist HR department where required

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Self-starter, extremely driven and efficient
  • Background in manufacturing
  • Ability to maintain a high level of detail and accuracy
  • Significant level of maturity and the ability to work as a part of a team
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor that inspires trust and respect
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in accounting paired with previous leadership experience
  • CPA designation required
  • University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Commerce, or Business
  • Management / Administration

  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills
  • Outstanding Excel skills
  • Experience working in / with high growth companies an asset
  • Experience with Salesforce / Financial Force an asset but not required
  • Ability to communicate to people at all levels
  • Highly motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
