About the Role :
The Non-Fiction Book Proofreader is responsible for reviewing and correcting manuscripts prior to publication to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency. This role focuses on eliminating grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors, while also checking for factual consistency and adherence to house style guidelines. The proofreader collaborates with editors and authors to deliver high-quality, publication-ready content.
Key Responsibilities :
- Review non-fiction manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and typographical errors
- Ensure consistency in style, formatting, headings, and citations throughout the manuscript
- Check for factual accuracy, especially for numbers, dates, references, and statements
- Validate the correctness of front matter and end matter (title page, table of contents, acknowledgments, references, etc.)
- Confirm correct use of abbreviations, acronyms, and specialized terminology
- Flag issues related to layout, such as page numbering, headings, and other design elements
- Maintain and apply the publishers house style guide
Requirements :
Proven experience as a proofreader, editor, or in a similar copyediting role (experience in non-fiction publishing highly desirable)Impeccable command of English grammar, spelling, and usageFamiliarity with major style guides (Chicago Manual of Style, APA, etc.)This position is crucial for upholding publishing standards and ensuring that non-fiction content is accurate, professional, and error-free.
