The primary member of the estimating team who has overall responsibility for the creation of budgets and estimates produced by the team. Responsible for the oversight of the estimating process for all projects bids and awards.
Skills / Qualifications :
- Estimating experience in a multi trade contactor preferred with either a mechanical or electrical focus
- Knowledge of construction processes (RFI, RFQ, Change Orders, etc.)
- Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Project, Word, AccuBid)
- A positive attitude, strong teams’ skills, and display leadership qualities
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral
- The ability to multitask and problem solve in a high-pressure work environment
- Willing to travel to job sites as required
Duties and Responsibilities :
Primary contact for work to be bid and / or quoted.Oversee all estimates, proposals, prequalification’s, including detailed review of others’work.
Assign responsibilities to the estimating team on each project.Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and that all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items have beenquantified and costed.
Prepare and / or coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design build or general tender work.Review customer RFQ’s (Request for Quotations), specifications, schedule requirements, and bid documents.Recommend / reject proposals.Conduct a detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications to determine overall project requirements (bonding, insurance, etc.) and identify any associated risk factors.Prepare and distribute bid appraisal forms.Monitor and compare costs and overall experiences from past projects and apply them to new proposals.Review all final estimator packages ensuring accuracy and completeness, prior to submission.Oversee department standards for deliverables such as bid packages, deliverable formats, and budget training tools.Prepare detailed take-offs and engineered drawings and be able to read multipledisciplines of blueprints.
Prepare AccuBid / excel spreadsheets for project estimations and any costing, planning orscheduling reports.
Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingencies.Prepare a complete list of materials and quantities take off.Coordinate the planning efforts with other divisions / trades.Coordinate with internal divisions to obtain prices such as mechanical, electrical, HVAC and manufacturing.Proactively follow up on tenders and RFIs.Organize and attend job progress meetings as required.Ensure paperwork for job costing and finance are completed.Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required.Assemble and file documents for project bids.Develop and maintain viable long-term relationships with customers and subcontractors.Perform as liaison for Project Management when tender is awarded and becomes job.Other duties as needed
