What is the opportunity?You will formulate strategy and implement a modern Production Operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization for the portfolio of around hundred production applications supporting RBC Investor Services business. In addition, you will be responsible to lead support teams to provide excellent technology services to our external clients and internal business stakeholders.The focus will be to build world-class services in key system and application support disciplines within the asset servicing and custody industry and in alignment with RBC’s Technology & Operations Strategy and best industry practices.You will be accountable for driving to target availability for all major platforms and continuously driving towards exceptional client experience and proactive and efficient operating model.
What will you do?This is a transformative, operational and strategy role that focuses on three areas: Operational excellence (SRE), Intelligent Operations and People Leadership
- Operational excellence (SRE):Oversee Incident/Problem/Change Management/Disaster Recovery Exercise ensuring availability and uptime of applications in scope, as per service level objectivesProduction Monitoring – observability, alerting, proactive testing, logging and anomaly detection and continuous automation and toil reductionEvaluate continuously – what went well, what went wrong, what can be done to improve and prevent in futureEnsure all systems maintain technology currency (perform server patching, certificate renewal, etc.) with keen eye on automating opportunitiesEnsure compliance of all systems and applications in scope, in line with RBC security standardsContinue to create efficiencies in the operating model and processesInstitute framework and process to ensure production readiness during software development projects
- Intelligent Operations:Set vision for SRE product base (monitoring, alerting, machine learning anomaly detection, self-healing, reliability testing)Drive best-in-class technical solutions by tracking closely industry leading solutions and applying to RBC environment and needsLeverage the value in unit, department, and enterprise-wide teams to develop better solutions and achieve a cross-enterprise mindsetResponsible to grow adoption of new technologies within SREEnable teams to meet objectives, implement changes to processes, tools, and methods that result in increased agility and effective cost management
- People LeadershipPromote a mindset for sustained success, growth and diversity for this critical functionContinue to enhance knowledge of critical business and technology processes across the teamProvide focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance enablement, supporting career development and rewarding strong performanceAttract, hire and retain top talent
What do you need to succeed?Must-have- 10+ years’ experience within production operations across multiple technologies and platforms including application and infrastructure
- 10+ years of related experience in Software Engineering (SRE, DevOps, Cloud, Data), with 10 to 12 years of people management experience
- Experience leading large teams of engineers and operations analysts with proven ability to partner across the organization to drive problem resolution.
- Ability to drive and facilitate transformation in a large and complex global organization
- Strong knowledge of industry practices, with focus on Engineering Transformation and SRE, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree or related breadth of experience
Nice-to-have- Well versed in AI technology
