Landscape Team Leader - Based out of Oakville
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a crew while participating in garden maintenance and installations. Working days are full time from Monday to Friday, and Saturdays if necessary. The role will also involve assisting with coordinating day to day operations such as creating work schedules, recording job site progress, and performing tool / equipment maintenance. This candidate should have education and experience in landscape management and can recognize and provide solutions to landscape problems. This position will allow for field and administrative experience, which can progress to further senior roles. This role typically leads to supervisor position.
Main Duties
- Garden maintenance – supervise a crew of 2-5 crew members while being an active member of the install / maintenance crew
- Keep crew members on task, inspect quality of work to ensure requirements and client needs are met
- Site setup and site planning
- Coordinate on-site work schedules and daily tasks
- Coordinate pest management needs for each site
- Work with and train new employees
- Ensure all crew members are aware of any on-site health and safety concerns as well as report safety incidents
- Organize renovation, planting, and maintenance projects
- Operate small equipment including backpack blowers, hedge trimmers, etc.
- Digging and wheelbarrowing, planting and mulching
- Communicate with clients and answer questions as needed
- Track employee hours, supplies, and activities on daily site work sheets
- Review inventory, organize, and complete shop work such as sharpening tools twice per month; buy supplies when necessary
- Use Jobber software to input time, client notes, review staff timesheets, make scheduling changes when needed
- Use specified software daily to advise supervisor of job site progress and future requirements
Job Requirements / Qualifications
High school diploma2 or more years post-secondary Horticulture educationMinimum 2 years of landscape experience and 1 year of leadership experienceMust be able to work full time hours from April 1st to December 1st, with the possibility of extra hours in off-seasonKnowledge of plant material, pruning, and hedge trimmingPhysically capable of lifting 40 or more pounds, wheelbarrowing, and performing repetitive tasksMust be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditionsHigh attention to detailLeadership skills are beneficial to a positive working environmentTeam-oriented and able to complete all tasks assignedProblem-solving skills necessary to solve crew member or client issues on siteHard working and self-motivated with a strong work ethicMust provide a valid G2 driver’s license and sometimes provide own transportation to job sitesMiscellaneous Information
