Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent - Social Performance with a competitive base salary between $,.00 – $,.00 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications, with an additional short term incentive of 20% . The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Purpose of the Role

Social Performance helps Newmont achieve its purpose of creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining, enabling the mining business to be successful while achieving broad community support. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, the Social Performance Superintendent is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of systematic social performance and community relations programs at Newmont’s Red Chris Mine. The position will direct all social performance, Indigenous relations, and community development at Red Chris, developing the site’s social performance strategy and leading its implementation, monitoring effectiveness and adjusting programming accordingly. Responsibilities include engagement planning, feedback management, impact and benefit management, and community investment programs, to support effective operational risk management, capability building, and long-term sustainable development.

Responsibilities

Growth Strategy / Governance

  • Ensure compliance with Newmont’s Global Standards, with particular focus on Newmont’s Social Performance Standards and relevant international and Canadian good practices including but not limited to stakeholder relationship management, community development, cultural heritage, working with Indigenous Peoples, and social aspect related to the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
  • Coordination at site level of Impact Benefit and Co-management Agreement (IBCA) compliance and support quarterly status-report to GM and BU
  • Work in collaboration with Human Resources, External Relations and Supply Chain functions to execute strategies related to local employment and local procurement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Human Resources, Procurement, Environment, Operations, Exploration, and Projects functions to foster relevant shared understanding of issues and integrate social performance considerations into project planning and operations. Identify mechanisms to enhance information sharing between departments and with Social Performance teams at other sites.
  • Support, participate in and report in compliance, assurance and governance activities associated with social performance across the BU
  • Track social performance and risk metrics against targets
  • Support review of projects / studies to align with social performance standards
  • Oversee social impact assessments, manage related risks and opportunities, , and serve as the social risk subject matter expert for Red Chris.
  • Design and monitor the implementation of Red Chris’ community investment and development programs and initiatives, aligning with local community needs and priorities as well as corporate goals, to support partnerships for local sustainable community development. Identify areas for improvement and relevant local capability building opportunities.
  • Cultivate and apply a social transition lens to social performance programming, from exploration through to closure planning, engaging other functions on expected practice at relevant stages of mine life.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Newmont’s Purpose and Values, and support Newmont’s commitment to contribute to a positive legacy by respecting human rights and diverse cultures and building enduring relationships. Develop and maintain a teaming culture within the Red Chris Social Performance team.

Operations Excellence

  • Provide leadership, oversight, management, and support to the Social Performance team on engagement with First Nations, local communities, and other relevant stakeholders, to build and maintain positive relationships, including through co-design and participatory monitoring
  • Develop and oversee implementation and monitoring of comprehensive community engagement plans and strategies to maximize active stakeholder collaboration to mitigate risk and deliver on business objectives
  • Ensure effective implementation and management of operational grievances and incidents with social consequences, laying a foundation for Indigenous and human rights due diligence.
  • Oversee social impact assessments, manage related risks and opportunities, , and serve as the social risk subject matter expert for Red Chris..
  • Monitor social performance events, trends, risks, and performance to identify gaps and action plans, that address performance improvements. Support investigations and development of actions, tracking actions.
  • Effectively utilize relevant data management software and tools for managing social performance data to support informed operational decision making and to meet site and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Ensure effective communication with site and BU leadership to develop and maintain understanding of social performance matters, and how they fit into overall site operations, provide guidance and support to manage social performance business risk. Support the Sustainability Manager in providing expert advice to corporate senior leadership on social performance.
  • Lead community engagement aspects of Red Chris crisis management program
  • Lead the Socio Cultural Committee as per IBCA
  • Safety & Sustainability

  • Review site level data for social performance management
  • Support lessons learned for events applicable to the Social Performance team
  • Wear personal protective equipment including hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, earplugs, gloves, or any other equipment to perform duties safely when required.
  • People

  • Support capacity building and setting performance objectives, expectations and priorities for the site level social performance team members
  • Attract, develop, and retain a highly effective social performance team that provides tactical support and implementation of programs as well as guidance and expertise to the operation. Work closely with consultants and other external experts to deliver on social performance projects and objectives
  • Commercial

  • Support site development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for social performance management. Develop, actively manage, and report against plans for costs, headcount and capital spend.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Red Chris social performance scopes, schedules, and budgets are executed. Monitor and report internally on the effectiveness of social performance programs and initiatives, including to the Red Chris Sustainability and General Managers and North America Business Unit (BU) leadership.

  • Knowledge

  • At least ten years’ demonstrable progressively responsible experience in mining social performance and social risk management, including project development, mine operations and closure, particularly in British Columbia or Canadian First Nations contexts.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Project Management fundamentals
  • Knowledge of participatory monitoring programs in local communities
  • Understanding and experience in external engagement with communities, external bodies, and regulatory authorities.
  • Knowledge of mining industry and operations
  • Knowledge with the implementation of standards in operations

  • Advanced proficiency in incorporating best-fit practices into social performance programs
  • Advanced proficiency in advising operational leadership and support functions such as exploration on social performance and risk management processes identifying gaps and advising on solutions.
