About the Opportunity
The purpose of this position is to receive and register inpatients and outpatients in a professional, efficient and caring manner in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Specific responsibilities include :
- Admit, discharge and transfer patients
- Register outpatients for clinics, Day Surgery, Emergency
- Operate switchboard and direct calls as required to departments and patients
- Maintains current knowledge of alarm procedures
- Act as receptionist to the general public and other clients
- Generate, distribute and maintain daily / monthly statistical reports
- Accept financial payments, provide receipts, facilitate transport of receipts / payments to finance and maintain cash drawers
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position including, bending, carrying, walking, pushing and sitting for long periods at a time
- Incumbent will utilize NShIS and CRT
- Other job related duties
- Travel to other sites may be required
About You

Grade 12 plus graduation from an accredited secretarial or business course, or 1 year related clerical / secretarial experience requiredMedical Terminology Course requiredOne year experience in the clerical field an assetProficient keyboarding skillsDemonstrated knowledge of WindowsGood interpersonal and communication skills – a high degree of tact, judgement and confidentialityAbility to work independently, assess situations and seek resolution if possible, in accordance with District policies and proceduresAbility to work in an area with frequent interruptionsCompetencies in other languages an asset, French preferredA skills test may be part of the selection process.
