Your Opportunity
We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Integrated Design team. This role supports power delivery and substation design projects in British Columbia. You will be responsible for making sound structural engineering decisions and collaborating across disciplines to meet project goals.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and analysis to applicable codes for heavy industrial / energy infrastructure steel structures and concrete foundations, primarily supporting power distribution and substation design projects.
- Develop designs through sketches, hand calculations, and structural analysis software models.
- Collaborate with Engineers and Designers on fit-for-purpose designs that meet client needs.
- Interface with other disciplines and project management to execute projects per the project plan.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to EITs and designers, while pursuing personal career development.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects following Stantec’s guidelines.
- Prepare and coordinate project specifications and construction documents.
- Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and / or clients.
- Travel to local project sites as needed.
Qualifications
Registered P. Eng. or eligible to obtain P.Eng in British Columbia.Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.Self-starter with ability to work independently.Ability to apply practical knowledge and make sound judgments to analyze issues and resolve design problems within standard guidelines. Requisite knowledge of structural design codes (NBCC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).Skills to manage time to meet project budget and schedule.Experience in a project team setting with creative and critical thinking.Willingness to expand structural engineering knowledge and work in a team environment.Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.Proficiency in industry-standard structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro) and Microsoft Office; knowledge of MathCad for detailed calculations.Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.Fluency in English; French is considered a strong asset.Experience with power transmission and distribution projects, specifically substations.WillIngness to travel to client sites and other Stantec offices; field experience is a strong asset.Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural.BC Hydro and / or substation design experience.Compensation and Benefits
Pay ranges vary by location : CA$91,800.00 – CA$133,100.00 for locations in Lower Mainland, BC. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement plans, employee stock purchase programs, life and AD&D, disability coverage, travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, and eligibility for bonuses where applicable. Benefits for union positions are governed by collective bargaining agreements.
