Position Conditions : This position is a full time, permanent position within the Fire and Emergency Services Department at the City of Brandon.

Rate of Pay : $162,274.86 per year (July 1, 2024 Rate)

This competition will include testing and an interview.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Deputy Chief of Emergency Services is responsible for the operations of Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and its Divisions, as directed by the Chief of Emergency Services, and to ensure the seamless delivery of services to the community.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PLANNING & SERVICE DELIVERY

• Provides leadership, support and direction to divisions (Fire Suppression, Fire Inspections, Public Education, Emergency Medical Services, and specialized rescue teams).
• Provides leadership, support and direction in matters pertaining to provision of Emergency Medical Services. Facilitates approved implementation of new procedure recommendations as provided by the EMS Advisory Committee. Responsible for negotiation of service Contracts with the Brandon Regional Health Authority and other appropriate partners.
• Ensures the Department and Division(s) are providing services in keeping with the City’s vision and guides the Department in developing and maintaining plans for the continued delivery of services.
• In collaboration with the Chief of Emergency Services, develops short and long term goals with objectives for the Department and ensures employees have the necessary understanding, skills, training, and resources to achieve the objectives.
• Establishes efficient work systems and procedures to meet the objectives of the Brandon Fire and Emergency Services.
• Provides input, direction and assistance to Purchasing Department for the procurement of apparatus and other related equipment.
